"Our units have entered Crimea several times [last year]. Our special forces will continue to conduct active operations," Ukrainian military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said in an article in the Financial Times on January 19.
Mr. Budanov stressed that it is important to continue to put pressure on Russia, especially in Crimea, attacking from the air, deploying attack drones at sea and conducting secret special operations.

Mr Budanov explained that one of the priorities of such missions is to destroy the Russian military's logistics force on the Crimean peninsula. Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine in 2014.
Mr Budanov said that Russia’s efforts to launch an offensive on Ukraine’s eastern front since the fall of 2023 have so far yielded no results. He said Russian losses on the front near Avdiivka in the eastern Donetsk region have increased significantly in recent weeks.

According to the Financial Times article, Ukraine has switched to "active defense" tactics. Earlier, Commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi revealed that the goal of the Ukrainian army is still to hold its positions and exhaust the Russian forces.
Ukrainian security officials believe that “Russia may be planning a large-scale offensive in early summer,” with the goal of seizing control of the remaining four regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, according to the Financial Times . Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that parts of these four regions will be annexed by Russia in September 2022. In addition, Ukrainian officials believe that another Russian effort is to target the city of Kharkiv or even the capital Kyiv.
There is currently no information about Russia's reaction to the above disclosure and assessment by Ukraine.
