On the occasion of Mr. Ishiba Shigeru being elected Prime Minister of Japan, on October 1, 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a congratulatory message.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son sent a congratulatory message to Mr. Iwaya Takeshi on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

A veteran politician, Ishiba was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1986, entering politics after working at Mitsui Bank (now Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp.) for about four years.

His father, Jiro Ishiba, was also a politician, serving as Minister of Internal Affairs and Governor of Tottori Prefecture, western Japan.

During his 38-year political career, the 67-year-old politician has worked mainly in the fields of security and revitalization of Japan's rural communities.

He is known to be a supporter of local regeneration, a factor that has often helped him lead pre-election polls as to which candidate is most qualified to lead the party.

Experts say his experience and trips to rural Japan have contributed to enhancing his reputation and voter support./.
