Lao Cai is about to have prolonged heavy rain

It is forecasted that on the night of July 10, there will be widespread showers and thunderstorms in the province, with scattered moderate to heavy rain, and very heavy rain in some places. This rain is likely to last for about 2-3 days.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the low pressure area in the West that has caused the heat wave in recent days is currently strengthening and then weakening.

Around tomorrow evening and night (July 10), a high-altitude wind convergence zone will form over the Northern region. This is a bad weather pattern that will cause widespread thunderstorms.

Accordingly, in the evening and early morning of July 11, there will be showers and thunderstorms in all areas of the province, with scattered moderate to heavy rain, and very heavy rain in some places. The total cumulative rainfall in the area will be from 60-130mm, with some areas having over 200mm of rain.

However, heavy rain is not static in a certain area but will shift in space and time, along with strong fluctuations in rainfall.

On the night of July 10, heavy rain is likely to concentrate in the following communes and wards: Bac Ha, Bao Nhai, Coc Lau, Ban Lien, Lung Phinh, Ta Cu Ty, Muong Khuong, Bao Lau, Cao Son, Pha Long, Bao Yen, Bao Ha, Phuc Khanh, Xuan Hoa, Nghia Do and Thuong Ha.

Low-lying areas, depressions, spillways, underground spillways, and confluences of rivers and streams should be prevented from deep flooding. Do not be subjective or negligent with tornadoes, lightning strikes and strong gusts of wind when there are thunderstorms. Be alert for heavy rain in a short period of time causing rapid flooding of low-lying streets in urban areas.
