According to the Ministry of Health , in the first 6 months of 2023, the country recorded more than 12,600 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, with 4 deaths. The Southern region accounts for more than 50% of the total number of cases in the country. The number of hand, foot and mouth disease cases is mainly in children under 10 years old, accounting for 98.5% of the total number of cases, of which it is common in the group from 1-5 years old. The results of monitoring the causative agent of hand, foot and mouth disease in 2023 recorded an increase in the rate of cases positive for Enterovirus 71 (EV71) in the total number of tested samples, this is a virus strain that can cause severe illness in some cases of hand, foot and mouth disease. Meanwhile, the country also recorded over 25,000 cases of dengue fever, down 39% compared to the same period in 2022, but the risk of an outbreak could increase in the coming time when the southern provinces and cities enter the rainy season, creating favorable conditions for disease-carrying mosquitoes to develop.
