Malaysian Football Federation accused of making "fake moves" to deceive FIFA

(Dan Tri) - Lawyer Nik Erman said that FAM's suspension of the former Secretary General was just a "fake move", while FIFA expressed deep disappointment and requested clarification of responsibilities related to the player document falsification scandal.

Commercial and sports lawyer Nik Erman Nik Roseli has taken a firm stance in stating that the decision by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to suspend the former Secretary General was a “fake move”, based on written arguments submitted by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

The incident arose after the world football governing body expressed “displeasure” over the suspension of FAM Secretary-General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman, who was suspended with immediate effect in October.

“It seems like this is just a farce. The suspension is just to prove that FAM has acted. In fact, FIFA said they are “shocked and disappointed” with FAM,” commented Mr. Nik Erman.

“FAM has not been able to clarify who is responsible. Based on the players’ statements, it seems like it is just like: ‘I don’t know, I work with the agent, and the agent works with FAM.’ They did not say who they contacted in FAM. The players also stated in the decision that FAM was the party that approached them and the agent. So who is that agent?”, he asked.

Nik Erman also stressed that it would be inappropriate to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as the arguments presented by FIFA could only further damage FAM's reputation.

“Legally, my advice is that there is no need to appeal because there is no valid basis. However, for those who still want to continue pursuing the case, they can take it to CAS. But from a technical perspective, it is not necessary because there is no valid reason to bring it to CAS,” he added to Astro Arena.

FIFA is asking authorities in five countries, including Argentina, the Netherlands, Spain, Brazil and Malaysia, to investigate the falsification of documents involving seven Malaysian-naturalized players, which is considered an international crime.

Malaysia's Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said she has handed full responsibility for investigating the case to the Home Affairs Ministry (KDN). She said the case falls under the jurisdiction of KDN and believes that Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will soon give an official response.

“The criminal aspect is the responsibility of KDN, so we have transferred it to them. I have also contacted the Home Minister but have not received a response yet. We need to give Datuk Seri Saifuddin time to look into the matter before we can give him an answer,” said Hannah Yeoh.

Today (November 20), the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will hold a plenary session at the National Assembly, where the 2026 Budget related to the KBS sector will be discussed.

“All these issues will be answered tomorrow, and I don’t want to go too far in today’s press conference,” she said at Nadi Arena on November 19.
