Le Thuy: Large bomb discovered under bridge pier in Chuon village

(QBĐT) - On the afternoon of March 19, information from the People's Committee of Kim Thuy commune (Le Thuy) said that during the construction and repair of the people's bridge connecting Chuon village with Con Cung village, a large bomb was discovered right under the bridge pier, forcing the entire project to be temporarily stopped to ensure safety.

The bomb was discovered while repairing the bridge connecting Chuon and Con Cung villages, Kim Thuy commune (Le Thuy).

Previously, a worker driving an excavator while digging at a construction site to a depth of about 3m hit a large bomb right under the bridge pier, close to the bridge pillar. Immediately, all 20 workers working at the site stopped all activities to ensure safety.

Upon receiving a request from the Provincial Military Command, the MAG mobile bomb disposal team arrived at the scene. After more than 2 hours of work, experts determined that this was an MK81 bomb, weighing about 118kg, with a lethal radius of more than 1km. The bomb was then brought to a safe state and successfully transported to a warehouse awaiting centralized destruction in the near future.

It is known that in 2018, the people's bridge connecting Chuon village with Con Cung village was built. However, the historic flash flood in October 2024 collapsed the bridge pier, completely cutting off the road connecting the two villages, forcing people to take a detour of nearly 25km. In response to the urgent needs of the people, in early March 2025, the project was rebuilt and repaired.
