Lunar New Year Holiday Schedule 2026

(DN) - According to the announcement of the Ministry of Home Affairs, civil servants and public employees will have the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday from February 14, 2026 to February 22, 2026. The Binh Ngo Lunar New Year holiday lasts 9 days, including 5 days off according to regulations and 4 days off on the weekend.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a document announcing the Lunar New Year (Tet) and National Day holidays in 2026 for cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers.

Accordingly, implementing the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Official Dispatch No. 9859/VPCP-KGVX dated October 13, 2025 of the Government Office on Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 and based on the provisions of Clause 2, Article 7 of Decree No. 128/2025/ND-CP1, the Minister of Home Affairs notifies administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations, enterprises and other employers to implement the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

Specifically, cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations (hereinafter referred to as civil servants and public employees) will have the Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 as follows: 5 days off according to regulations, including 1 day before Tet and 4 days after Tet from Monday, February 16, 2026 (ie December 29, At Ty year) to Friday, February 20, 2026 (ie January 4, Binh Ngo year).

On the occasion of National Day 2026, civil servants and public employees will have 2 days off according to regulations, including September 2, 2026 and the day immediately preceding September 1, 2026; Swap from working day Monday, August 31, 2026 to weekly day off Saturday, August 22, 2026 (off Monday, August 31, 2026 and make up on Saturday, August 22, 2026).

Agencies and units implementing the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 must arrange and organize on-duty departments according to regulations and work reasonably to handle continuous work, ensuring good service to organizations and people, in which it is important to assign officers and civil servants to be on-duty to handle sudden and unexpected work that may occur during holidays and Tet according to regulations.

Ministries, agencies and localities have specific and appropriate plans and measures to encourage units, enterprises, organizations and individuals to actively and proactively implement measures to develop production, business, economic and social activities, ensure supply and demand of goods and services, stabilize prices and markets, contribute to promoting economic growth, practice thrift, and combat waste before, during and after the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

Agencies and units that do not have a fixed weekly Saturday and Sunday off schedule will base on the specific program and plan of the unit to arrange an appropriate off schedule, in accordance with the provisions of law.

In addition, the Ministry of Home Affairs also announced that for employees who are not civil servants or public employees, employers can decide to choose the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 as follows:

On Lunar New Year, choose to take 1 day off at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 4 days of the year of Binh Ngo or 2 days off at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 3 days of the year of Binh Ngo or 3 days off at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 2 days of the year of Binh Ngo.

On National Day, take a day off on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, and choose one of two days off: Tuesday, September 1, 2026, or Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Employers shall notify employees of the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 at least 30 days in advance. If the weekly day off coincides with the public holidays specified in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, employees shall be entitled to take compensatory weekly days off on the next working day as specified in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.

The Ministry of Home Affairs encourages employers to apply the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 for employees as prescribed for civil servants and public employees and encourages more favorable agreements for employees.

Other holidays and Tet holidays are implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code.
