Asian Football Confederation officially organizes women's club tournament

Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club is the most successful team in the national championship with 12 championships.

At the meeting, the AFC Women's Football Committee unanimously decided to organize the AFC Women's Champions League for women's football clubs starting from the 2024/25 season. Accordingly, the AFC Women's Champions League will be held at a centralized location with the participation of 12 representatives who are the teams that won the highest position in the national women's football championship of the member federations (based on the FIFA Ranking in Asia).

Thus, with the 6th ranking according to the FIFA Ranking in the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam will be entitled to send a representative to participate in the tournament from now until the 2026/27 season. Starting from the 2027/28 season, according to the request from the AFC, women's football clubs in Vietnam will have to apply for a license to participate in this tournament. Women's football clubs will have 3 years to develop a roadmap and prepare conditions to meet the AFC's licensing criteria.

The AFC Women's Football Committee has also approved the nomination of the host associations for the 2026 and 2029 AFC Women's Asian Cup as the Football Federation of Australia and the Football Federation of Uzbekistan respectively. Although some procedures of the bidding process are still in the process of being completed, the AFC Women's Football Committee has authorised the AFC Executive Committee to confirm the award of hosting rights once all requirements are met.

Also at the meeting, members were updated on all issues related to women's football in the fields of competition, refereeing and technical matters since the previous meeting, including the decision to postpone the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup - Indonesia 2024, which will be held from 06 - 19/5/2024.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club is the most successful team in the playground for women in Vietnamese women's football. Coach Doan Thi Kim Chi and her team have just successfully defended their championship title at the 2023 Women's National Championship, their fifth consecutive championship. This is also the 12th national championship in the history of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club. Behind Saigon Women's Club in terms of the number of national championships is Hanoi Women's Club with 10 titles.
