Speaking at a regular press conference, Mr. Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, emphasized that this is an important step forward in global efforts to effectively exploit the benefits of AI, while controlling the potential risks of this technology.
Mr. Stephane Dujarric affirmed that this is a groundbreaking milestone, demonstrating the strong commitment of member countries in realizing the Global Digital Compact adopted within the framework of the Compact for the Future in September 2024.
The UN Secretary-General calls on all stakeholders to support this historic initiative and join hands in building a future where AI serves the common good of all humanity.
According to the United Nations, the Global Dialogue on AI Governance will be a comprehensive forum coordinated by the United Nations, creating a space for countries and stakeholders to discuss pressing issues related to artificial intelligence.
Meanwhile, the independent International Scientific Council on AI will act as a bridge between cutting-edge scientific research and global policy, providing independent and in-depth scientific assessments to help the international community identify challenges early and make informed decisions on AI governance.
The UN Secretary-General is expected to announce a call for nominations for the Independent International Scientific Council on AI, which will report annually at the meetings of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in July 2026, and in New York, USA, in 2027.
