Choosing to study vocational training at colleges and then transfer to university is becoming a smart, flexible path that brings many practical advantages. How can learners transfer from vocational schools to universities and is this path really convenient?

This is information from experts from prestigious training institutions at the 2025 Online Admissions Consulting program organized by Education and Times Newspaper on the morning of July 22.

The program has the participation of representatives from 4 prestigious training institutions: Dai Viet Saigon College, iSPACE College, Ho Chi Minh City College of Technology and Saigon Polytechnic College, helping parents and students have a clear view of future career orientation.

Clear, flexible and recognized

In response to the concerns of many candidates about the university transfer path, MSc. Nguyen Duy Tien, Head of Admissions and Communications Department of Ho Chi Minh City College of Technology, affirmed: this is a completely legitimate aspiration and has been institutionalized by the transfer training regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training .

This roadmap has been and is being implemented very effectively in many schools. For example, Ho Chi Minh City College of Technology has signed cooperation agreements with many prestigious universities to create conditions for students to transfer to university level: Economics: Transfer with University of Finance - Marketing; Technology and Engineering (Automotive Technology, Electronics...): Transfer with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education; Traditional industry (Textile and Garment): Transfer with schools under the Ministry of Industry and Trade such as Hanoi University of Industry and Textile.

One of the biggest advantages of the bridging pathway is its flexibility. Bridging classes are usually held on weekends (Saturday, Sunday) and incorporate online learning for theoretical subjects.

This allows students to gain work experience while continuing to improve their qualifications. The time to complete a university program usually takes only 1.5 to 2 years.

MSc. Nguyen Duy Tien emphasized: "More importantly, college graduates from any school can register for transfer programs at universities nationwide that enroll transfer students, not limited to partner schools."

Cost saving, solid skills

Sharing his own experience, MSc. Nguyen Van Minh Tien, Vice Principal of Saigon Polytechnic College, affirmed that choosing to study college after graduating from high school is a decision he will never regret. This path brings many outstanding advantages.

In fact, college programs usually last 2.5 years, with more than 70% of the time focused on practice. Students graduate with solid skills, confidently entering the labor market sooner, shortening training time and solid skills.

Besides the advantages of practical skills, choosing to study at college also helps to significantly reduce the financial burden on families with reasonable tuition fees, only about 20 million VND/year.

Current recruitment trends also show that businesses prioritize personnel from colleges (up to 70%). The reason is because college students have good practical skills and are suitable for the salary structure of businesses.

After working, accumulating experience and having a stable income, studying in a university will become much more proactive and effective.

Master Nguyen Van Minh Tien affirmed: "There is no right choice, no wrong choice. There is only the right choice. Most of the university majors are now available at the college level, so students do not have to worry about a lack of majors or jobs."

Practical training: The key to a solid career

In the context of a volatile labor market, a training strategy that is closely linked to practice, deeply connected with businesses and committed to employment is the "key" to helping students confidently start their own businesses. This is also the core strength of colleges.

At the 2025 Online Admissions Consulting program, schools such as Dai Viet Saigon College, iSPACE College, Ho Chi Minh City College of Technology and Saigon Polytechnic College all emphasized the training philosophy of "practical learning - practice - internship".

The "School - Enterprise - Student" model is closely operated, where experts from enterprises directly participate in teaching, bringing practical experience into each lecture.

Thanks to this strategy, the job commitment becomes a reliable guarantee. Ms. Le Thi Bich Thao - Vice Principal of Dai Viet Sai Gon College, emphasized the strategy of "practice - practice - practice" with more than 70% of the time devoted to practice. The rate of students having jobs after graduation in key fields is always over 90%.

To help students and their families feel secure in pursuing their education, colleges also have practical financial support policies. Typical examples include the 1.5 billion VND scholarship fund of Ho Chi Minh City College of Technology or the commitment not to increase tuition fees for the entire course of Dai Viet Saigon College.

In addition, in response to students' concerns about the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), MSc. Le Hoang Binh Nguyen - Vice Principal of iSPACE College, shared the school's training orientation. He said that in recent years, AI application models have changed the way people work and live.

iSPACE College orients its training program so that IT students can not only survive but also stay ahead of trends and not worry about being replaced. Specifically, the school helps students master AI to increase work productivity, shorten the training program, and help learners quickly acquire skills and knowledge.

At iSPACE College, the training goal is not for students to "catch up" with technology but to master technology. The curriculum is always updated according to the latest technology trends and applies modern teaching methods. In particular, the school integrates skills in using AI as a tool to support learning, instead of letting AI replace humans.

Students not only learn theory but are also trained in technological thinking - problem-solving thinking, something that AI cannot replace humans.

"The path from college to university is not just a temporary solution when there is not enough score, but has become a strategic roadmap, helping learners save costs, gain solid skills, get a job soon and build a solid foundation for their future career," experts emphasized.
