Previously, on June 30, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko welcomed Wagner members to share combat experience with the country's soldiers.
Mr Lukashenko said he was not worried about Wagner soldiers because he had known them for a long time. Some Belarusian military commanders also offered to accept members of the private military corporation to help with training.
President Lukashenko also said that Wagner's presence in Belarus is good for the country's military because it is a combat-ready force. The Belarusian president assessed that Wagner has combat experience and operates effectively all over the world, especially in Africa, so "the West hates them to the core".
Wagner arrived in Belarus after a deal brokered by Lukashenko to end the June 24 uprising. Under the deal, Wagner members could either travel to Belarus with the group’s leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, or sign a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry. The Kremlin said it would not prosecute Prigozhin or Wagner members involved in the uprising.
