On the evening of June 1st ( Hanoi time), coach Christopher Galtier confirmed that Lionel Messi will no longer be with PSG after the end of this season.
"I have the honor of coaching the best player in football history. The match against Clermont (on June 4th) will be Leo's last game at Parc des Princes," coach Galtier announced in the pre-match press conference.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added: "Messi's departure from PSG was planned. Leo's father, Jorge, spoke to PSG more than a month ago. Messi will announce his next destination soon."
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 2022 World Cup champion refused to renew his contract with the Ligue 1 club after their defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Messi previously faced backlash from PSG fans when he and his family traveled to Saudi Arabia to serve as the country's tourism ambassador.
On May 28th, "El Pulga" did not attend the Ligue 1 awards ceremony to be in Barcelona to deal with personal matters. Spanish media reported that Messi had pre-registered his three sons to attend a school in Barcelona.
Revelo revealed that a school in Castelldefels, a town on the outskirts of Barcelona, received an application from Messi. The 2022 World Cup champion wants to "reserve a place" for Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro to study at Castelldefels for the next school year.
Messi's future has been a much-discussed topic recently. Inter Miami, Al Hilal, and Barcelona are the three clubs most aggressively pursuing the 35-year-old superstar. Al Hilal is reportedly offering Messi a move to Saudi Arabia with a salary of 1.2 billion euros for two seasons, three times Cristiano Ronaldo's current earnings at Al Nassr.
Messi's father seemed interested in the offer from the Middle East, but Leo himself still intends to join Barca. The Catalan club is still waiting for a decision from the La Liga organizers to know if they have the financial means to sign Messi.
On PSG's side, they plan to recruit midfielder Bernardo Silva to rebuild their attack this summer. Advisor Luis Campos sees Silva as the ideal replacement for Leo. The player can perform well on the wing or in the center of the pitch. He also has a good understanding of Ligue 1.
