These were the predecessors of the present-day Phu Tho Provincial Armed Forces. One of the urgent and important tasks that needed to be solved immediately after gaining power in the province was to unify the local armed forces and build the province's main force as a tool to suppress the enemy. Faced with that reality, under the leadership of the Inter-Zone Liberation Committee, on August 26, 1945, the Phu Tho Provincial Uprising Leadership Committee met to discuss measures to unify the provincial armed forces. On August 30, 1945, the provincial armed forces units were unified into the Liberation Army Unit, named Tran Quoc Toan Liberation Army Unit. This was the first main force unit of the province and August 30 became the Traditional Day of the Phu Tho Provincial Armed Forces.

During the resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, the war to protect the Fatherland and carry out international missions, generations of cadres and soldiers of the Phu Tho Provincial Armed Forces have always promoted the tradition of the heroic homeland, writing the tradition of "Loyalty - Bravery - Victory". After 80 years of building, fighting and growing, the Phu Tho Provincial Armed Forces have been awarded many noble awards by the Party and State: the Gold Star Order, the Ho Chi Minh Order, 3 Military Exploit Orders (First, Second, Third Class), many Exploit Orders, the Fatherland Protection Order and other noble awards. The whole province has 82 collectives and 26 individuals awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces; 1,235 Heroic Vietnamese Mothers; many units were awarded the Excellent Emulation Flag of the Ministry of National Defense , Military Region 2 and Phu Tho Province...

In particular, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of its tradition, the Phu Tho Provincial Armed Forces were honored to be awarded the First Class Fatherland Protection Medal. These noble awards are recognition from the Party, State, and Army; they are a source of pride and motivation for the Phu Tho Provincial Armed Forces and people to continue to strive to excellently fulfill their tasks, enhancing the tradition of the locality and the provincial armed forces.

From July 1, 2025, the new Phu Tho province has officially come into operation on the basis of merging the three provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh , marking a strategic turning point to open up new development space and driving force, expand geographical space and regional connectivity, and build Phu Tho province into an industrial, service, logistics, and tourism center of the midland and mountainous region of the North. With its strategic location at the "river junction" (the confluence of the Red River, Da River, and Lo River), the western gateway of the capital Hanoi and surrounding most of the capital's area, Phu Tho province is not only a vital transit point but also an important defense area in the defense posture to protect the capital Hanoi from afar, and the center of the defense posture of Military Region 2. Therefore, military and defense work, building a comprehensively strong provincial armed force to meet the requirements of the task of protecting the Fatherland in the new period is especially important.

Faced with the requirements of the new period, the Party Committee and the Provincial Military Command continue to promote their core advisory role, proactively and effectively advise the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee on military and defense tasks; build a solid defense zone, associated with Party building, consolidate the grassroots political system, maintain political stability and peace of the heroic homeland. Promoting the tradition of "Loyalty - Bravery - Victory" over 80 years of construction, fighting and growing, the Phu Tho Provincial Military is determined to create a new, solid development step in terms of overall quality and combat strength; build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite and modern force, taking strong political construction as the foundation. The Provincial Military focuses on improving political mettle, moral qualities, professional qualifications, combat readiness; Ensure a lean, compact, strong organization capable of excellently completing all tasks in peacetime and ready to expand and respond well when situations arise.

Provincial military units focus on improving the quality of training and exercises, strictly maintaining combat readiness; closely combining the building of the all-people national defense posture with the people's security posture, a solid "people's hearts posture"; doing a good job of coordinating to grasp, forecast, advise, and promptly and effectively handle situations, avoiding being passive or surprised.

Along with that, the Phu Tho Provincial Military actively participated in production labor, closely coordinated with other forces to carry out mass mobilization work well, contributing to building a strong political base, playing a core role on the political and ideological front, resolutely fighting against "peaceful evolution" plots. At the same time, strengthening the solidarity between the army and the people, implementing the motto "Serving the people, wholeheartedly helping the people"; Promote the implementation of "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style", associated with the implementation of the Campaign "Promoting tradition, dedicating talent, worthy of being Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new era", building a comprehensively strong unit "exemplary, typical", excellently completing all assigned tasks, practically contributing to building the homeland to be increasingly rich and beautiful, strong, continuing the brilliant golden history of the provincial armed forces, worthy of the sacrifices and cultivation of many generations of fathers and brothers and the trust and love of the Party, State and people.
