Green lifestyle among young people is flexible and practical
Green lifestyle is a trend that is increasingly chosen by many people, especially young people. This is not only a way to protect the environment, but also a lifestyle that brings many positive values to oneself and the community. Practicing green living behaviors, contributes significantly to maintaining and protecting the surrounding living environment. Replacing nylon bags with cloth bags; using stainless steel, paper, glass straws instead of plastic straws; recycling waste; choosing environmentally friendly products... are manifestations of a lifestyle that is becoming increasingly popular among young people. Taking advantage of social networks, the young generation has created a positive influence on the surrounding community by spreading the green lifestyle through many practical activities, such as: Posting articles sharing how to use beeswax instead of plastic wrap, making short videos instructing how to recycle old clothes, using used plastic bottles and boxes to make decorative products... has quickly spread, inspiring a large number of viewers.
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Trang (residing in Long Xuyen City) shared: “Every day, when I go to work, I bring my personal water bottle and a food bag to stop by the market to buy food after work, limiting the use of plastic bags. I have had the habit of bringing a water bottle to drink since I was in college, and over the years, my personal water bottle has become an indispensable item. Even when I stop by to buy milk tea or other drinks, I give my own bottle to the store staff to make water. In cases where I have to use plastic, I choose the reusable type to avoid using it once and then throwing it away.” Ms. Tran Thi My Nhan (residing in Long Xuyen City) shared: “In my family life, I try to minimize the amount of household waste, save energy and classify garbage at home. I have been doing this for the past 2 years to train my daughter to follow the habit. At first, it was annoying, but once I got used to it, I found it very good.”
Many young people not only practice a green lifestyle, but also learn carefully about the origin of products and their impact on the environment to make responsible choices when purchasing consumer goods and using items in daily life. There are young people who organize activities to exchange trash for trees, make recycled soap from leftover cooking oil, build their own communication channels on the topic of green living... However, due to the difference in awareness between individuals in society, not everyone in the youth group clearly understands the nature and goals of a green lifestyle and not all young people have the financial means to pursue this lifestyle. Environmentally friendly products such as bamboo toothbrushes, recycled clothes, organic foods... are often more expensive than regular household items. For students or new employees, this is a barrier. Practicing a green lifestyle sometimes requires more time and effort than choosing conventional convenience, and in the busy pace of modern life, many people do not have enough perseverance to maintain "green" habits every day.
Despite many difficulties, the initiative, sensitivity and innovation of a segment of young people are important driving forces helping the green lifestyle develop in the right direction. Many dynamic young people have organized groups to share knowledge online or started businesses with business models following the green lifestyle, spreading minimalist lifestyles, slow consumption and living responsibly towards the environment. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Cang (residing in Long Xuyen City, working in the field of communications in Ho Chi Minh City) shared: “Our team is also practicing a green lifestyle. It must be affirmed that living green does not necessarily mean doing something big or completely giving up your current life to live a minimalist life. The green lifestyle among today's youth is flexible and practical. It is a conscious choice every day, from the way you eat to the way you consume or it can be a small action, such as: refusing to accept plastic bags when shopping, choosing products without plastic packaging, using public transport, saving electricity and water, or sometimes sharing a valuable article about the environment with friends... When these small actions are maintained regularly, become habits and spread in the community, they will create great power for change".
Green lifestyle among young people is gradually becoming a good lifestyle, with widespread influence. It is a change in thinking, values and responsibility of each person towards the environment. For the green living movement among young people to truly develop and be sustainable, it needs the support ofeducation and communication.
