Scam to borrow more than 4 billion VND from friends to invest in virtual currency

On February 29, Can Tho City Police temporarily detained Huynh Thanh Luan (33 years old, residing in Binh Thuy district) for the crime of Fraudulent appropriation of property.

According to initial investigation results, around the end of 2021, Luan started investing in virtual currency on the Forex FTX exchange.

Having no money to invest, the subject contacted friends to borrow money. Luan used the excuse of having a debt at the bank that needed to be paid off, and borrowed more than 4 billion VND from many people.

With the borrowed money, Luan invested in virtual currency and lost everything in a short period of time. With no money to pay the debt, the subject fled the area.

Recently, the authorities have captured Luan.

Can Tho City Police requested that the victim of the subject promptly report and provide information to the Criminal Police Department at 9A Tran Phu, Cai Khe Ward, Ninh Kieu District to serve the investigation.
