The Vietnamese game show scene is heating up every day. In this intense competition, Vietnamese producers not only spend tens of billions of dong investing in game shows and recruiting cast members, but also pour significant amounts of money into promoting and media-marketing each episode.
After Running Man Vietnam season 3 aired, the game show market became even more diverse, offering more "flavors" for television viewers. Simultaneously with Running Man Vietnam was 2 Days 1 Night. Both programs shared similar formats and investment levels, and featured a star-studded cast from Vietnamese showbiz, making them fierce rivals.
What a shame for Running Man Vietnam.
From the announcement of their return to the gradual unveiling of the cast, which included big names like... With Trấn Thành, Anh Tú Atus, Ninh Dương Lan Ngọc, Quang Trung, Quang Tuấn, Quân AP, Running Man Vietnam season 3 is more anticipated and eagerly awaited by viewers than ever before.
Not disappointing viewers, the first episode of the reality TV show quickly became a sensation. According to preliminary statistics, after 9 days of airing, the total viewership of the opening episode reached 8.5 million. This number far surpasses episode 3 of "Brother Says Hi," which aired at the same time. Data from Socialite (from October 1st to October 7th) shows that the first episode of Running Man Vietnam topped the weekly game show rankings with 408,527 discussions. Following Running Man Vietnam were "Brother Says Hi" (379,455 discussions) and "2 Days 1 Night" (166,596 discussions).

Short clips capturing games, playful banter, and humorous exchanges between members of the reality show also attract millions of views from the audience.
However, the highly anticipated reality show suddenly lost momentum from episode 2, which aired on October 11th. Not only did viewership drop sharply compared to the opening episode, but the script of episode 2 and the games were also criticized for being less engaging and dramatic.
Episode two was drawn-out and tedious, especially the opening segment introducing the cast and interacting with the guests. While the program only lasted 90 minutes, the opening segment took up 20 minutes, making the overall episode 2 frustrating and tiring for viewers.
Furthermore, the injury sustained by Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc – considered the most dedicated member of the show – which forced her to sit in one place throughout episode 2, also affected the program's flow.
The games involving shareholding or name tag ripping, which are a hallmark of Running Man Vietnam, have been criticized for lacking appeal. Tran Thanh, Quang Trung, and Anh Tu Atus – the three main comedic elements that attract viewers – were the first to have their name tags ripped off. As the show progressed, the alliances and name tag ripping between members became quick and predictable. At the end of episode 2, when Trang Phap tried to rip off Lien Binh Phat's name tag, only to have JSOL rip it back, it all happened in a flash.
"This episode's name tag ripping segment was a bit lackluster compared to the opening episode. The game sequences weren't very engaging either. However, some moments between Lien Binh Phat and Trang Phap in the 'belly-bloated battle' challenge were quite humorous and funny, thanks to the editing team"; "Episode 2's runtime was poorly allocated, the game pace was too fast, and the name tag ripping part felt rushed. The highlights almost took up all the content"; "It's possible that Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc's injury forced the producers to change the script. It's also a bit of a shame that Lan Ngoc didn't participate in the games in episode 2"... these are some comments from viewers.

After two episodes, former members like Tran Thanh and Lien Binh Phat have maintained their excellent form. As the host, Tran Thanh knows how to connect the members and keep the program running smoothly. He also throws himself wholeheartedly into each challenge and isn't afraid to compete or "play dirty." Similarly, Lien Binh Phat continues to maintain his physical fitness and agility.
Newcomers like Anh Tú Atus and Quang Trung are doing well. Meanwhile, Quang Tuấn and Quân AP, with their gentle personalities, lack of eloquence, and slow improvisation skills, seem somewhat out of place among the cast.
2 days and 1 night of temperature drop
Entering its fourth season, 2 Days 1 Night – a reality show from the "giant" DatViet VAC – is facing the challenge of creating something new and innovative in its format and games, while retaining a cast of familiar faces who have appeared in many previous seasons. Truong Giang, Le Duong Bao Lam, Ngo Kien Huy, Kieu Minh Tuan...
Although the viewership for each episode in the latest season remains stable, ranging from 3 to 9 million, the show's discussion and impact still lag far behind shows like "Brother Says Hi" or, most recently, Running Man Vietnam.
Similar to previous seasons, the 2-day, 1-night journey in season 4 continues with the cast traveling to various provinces and cities across Vietnam, facing challenges related to local cuisine , heritage, and people. Here, they participate in simple games, followed by heart-to-heart conversations, interaction, and playful banter among the members. Truong Giang remains the elder brother, leading the program. Members like Le Duong Bao Lam and Cris Phan are the comedic relief, while HIEUTHUHAI stands out with his handsome looks, being the youngest and most beloved member of the show.
To add a fresh perspective to the show, "2 Days 1 Night" recruited additional guest artists such as Kaity Nguyen, Quynh Anh Shyn, and Lam Hung. However, after all that, the difficult problem that "2 Days 1 Night" posed from the beginning remains unsolved.

Furthermore, in some of the most recent episodes, the show has been plagued by controversy. Specifically, in episode 82, during the siege game, Le Duong Bao Lam slipped and fell, causing decorative bricks to fall on his head. In the behind-the-scenes clip, the actor suffered a minor head injury and had to be bandaged on the spot, but luckily he was not seriously injured and was able to continue filming.
Another game in episode 81, which involved wrapping actor Le Duong Bao Lam's head in plastic wrap, also drew fierce criticism. The producers subsequently issued an apology.
"The use of plastic wrap by artist Le Duong Bao Lam was a temporary solution to protect his styled hair, with holes punched in the nose, mouth, and eyes, and was done under the supervision of the production team to ensure the artist's safety. However, we understand that some images may cause viewers concern about children imitating the style. Therefore, the organizers sincerely apologize if this has caused any inconvenience or misunderstanding," according to the producer's announcement.
Besides the format and content, which have been criticized for lacking originality, another disadvantage of 2 Days 1 Night is its broadcast timing. In the first leg, the show faced a major competitor, Haha's Family. The next leg was a competition against Running Man Vietnam Season 3. If we compare them, the novelty, the appeal of the cast, and the dramatic challenges are areas where 2 Days 1 Night falls short compared to its two rivals. Therefore, the fact that the program is lagging behind is a predictable scenario for both observers and fans of reality shows.
