Explaining the 1 million VND bonus at the National Youth Volleyball Tournament

Before the controversy surrounding the 1 million VND individual bonus at the 2025 National Youth Volleyball Tournament, Tri Thuc - Znews contacted Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of VFV to find out.

Mr. Truong said that currently, Vietnamese volleyball has two tournament systems. For tournaments managed and organized by the Department of Sports and Physical Training, such as the national youth tournament, VFV participates in supporting and does not decide on the reward level. Expenses for cups, medals or individual prizes are all according to the financial regulations of the state. However, the bonus for individual titles at the 2025 National Youth Volleyball Tournament is not included in the regulations of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, so this bonus is supported by VFV and is intended to encourage athletes.

“For tournaments managed and organized by VFV such as the national championship, all costs are funded by socialized sources from sponsors. The national youth tournament is part of the system chaired by the Department of Sports and Physical Training. Therefore, the individual bonus level here complies with general regulations and cannot be adjusted arbitrarily. The individual titles at the tournament are not included in the regulations of the Department of Sports and Physical Training but are supported by VFV with the meaning of encouraging the athletes' spirit,” Mr. Le Tri Truong told Tri Thuc - Znews .

Previously, the 2025 National Youth Volleyball Tournament ended with a 3-2 victory for the Young Soldiers of the Information Corps against Young VTV Binh Dien Long An in the final match. In addition to the collective award, the organizing committee awarded 3 individual titles, each worth 1 million VND, including: Pham Quynh Huong (excellent attacker), Mai Ngoc Tuyen (excellent setter) and Tran Lan Anh (excellent defense).

This bonus level later caused controversy in public opinion, when compared with some grassroots tournaments with higher rewards, thereby raising questions about the policy of treatment and investment for the youth force of Vietnamese volleyball.
