Mainoo in conflict with MU

According to the Daily Mail , coach Ruben Amorim has announced that Mainoo should stay and compete for a starting place in midfield with captain Bruno Fernandes. Despite having a chance to play in the match against Grimsby Town in the League Cup on August 28, Mainoo has not been guaranteed a regular place this season.

In a recent interview, coach Amorim spoke frankly about Mainoo's future: "I want Kobbie to stay. He needs to fight for his position, MU needs Kobbie, that will not change."

Under Amorim, Mainoo has not played as much as the midfielder would have liked. This has been the case since last season, when Mainoo was left out of the Europa League final against Tottenham. Since the start of 2025, he has made just eight Premier League appearances.

Mainoo has not been called up to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, as he needs to play more to be eligible for the squad.

Despite being with the team since childhood, Mainoo is determined to find more regular playing opportunities, especially as the 2026 World Cup approaches.

The English midfielder has yet to sign a new contract with MU. The two sides reached an agreement in February. But for more than half a year, the signing has been delayed.
