Recent reports suggest that Liverpool and even his former club Manchester City are "exploring" the possibility of signing the English attacker if Chelsea fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool player and now a famous football expert, was the one who frankly asked the question: "Why isn't Palmer being linked more with other big clubs in the Premier League?".
In The Telegraph, he stressed that a player of Palmer's calibre deserves regular football in the Champions League, Europe's biggest stage, something Chelsea have yet to secure.
Palmer has not had many opportunities to prove himself in the Champions League. |
"Palmer has only played 183 minutes in the Champions League. This is too little for a player who is about to turn 23 and has the influence he has. If Chelsea cannot satisfy his desire to play at the top level, it will only be a matter of time before other teams jump in," said Carragher.
Palmer’s form has dipped in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign, with the striker failing to score since January. However, he is still regarded as one of the Premier League’s top attacking talents. If Chelsea were to sell the 2001-born player, the 22-year-old would certainly not come cheap, especially as his contract with Chelsea runs until 2033.
Journalist Simon Phillips also confirmed that Liverpool and Manchester City are both keeping a close eye on the situation, with City even reportedly making an offer for Palmer recently, suggesting they have never lost faith in their academy graduate.
The prospect of Palmer leaving Chelsea to join a direct rival like Liverpool or return to the Etihad would certainly send shockwaves through the transfer market.
Although Carragher did not directly call on Liverpool to sign Palmer, he insisted that "predators" would not stand by and watch if Chelsea missed out on Champions League football.
With just four games remaining, Chelsea need to fight hard to keep their place in the top five. If they fail, not only will their season's goals be threatened, but they also risk losing one of the brightest gems in their squad to direct competitors.
