Marcelo burst into tears after accidentally breaking his opponent's leg

In the 55th minute of the match between Argentinos and Fluminense in the 2023 Copa Libertadores (South American Champions League), Marcelo dribbled the ball with his right foot and accidentally broke the leg of the opposing team's player Luciano Sanchez (Argentinos Juniors Club). Doctors immediately entered the field to provide first aid to Sanchez.

After this situation, Marcelo hugged his teammate and cried right on the field because he was worried about his opponent. With this situation, the referee gave the former Real Madrid player a red card and Sanchez left the field on a stretcher.

After the match, the Brazilian player shared on social media: "Today, I had to go through an extremely difficult moment on the field. I accidentally injured a colleague. I want to wish Luciano Sanchez the best recovery!".

According to ESPN, Sanchez is suspected of having a broken leg and will be out for a long time.

Football fans were also quick to react to the incident, with one fan even replying to Marcelo's status: "Marcelo didn't even mean to step on him." Another expressed concern about the opposing player's injury: "This is the worst injury I've ever seen in my life!".

With the red card in this match, Marcelo will still play in the match against Palmeiras on Saturday in Brazil's Serie A but will be suspended for the second leg against Argentinos Juniors in the round of 16 on August 8 at home.

After leaving Real Madrid (9-2022), Marcelo joined Olympiacos (Greece) for more than 5 months and is currently playing for Fluminense in Brazil.
