The Dark Side of AI Abuse

The Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024 is predicted to explode online with countless applications for Tet greetings supported by AI technology. Besides applications from "tech giants" such as Microsoft Copilot, Google Bard, or ChatGPT by OpenAI... there are also many Vietnamese applications.

And not only with text greetings, users can also ask AI to create Tet cards with pictures and videos .

However, many people will feel "down" when they know that the New Year wishes sent to them are created by "robots". They no longer contain the genuine emotions of the sender.

For a long time, people have warned about the abuse of AI in all areas of life. This abuse makes people lazy to use their brains. Previously, the automation revolution by machines helped people reduce manual and physical work; but if abused, it will make people lazy and weak. Today, AI technology has affected human mental activities. There is no denying the benefits that AI brings, but how to apply AI effectively, at the right time, in the right place. Abusing AI, even if not for bad purposes, is still not beneficial to users.

Experts also note that in the context of the AI application explosion, this year's Tet will see more personal photo editing applications, creating from user images. It's fun, but users need to be careful and only use applications from trusted suppliers. Abusing "face-changing" applications can cause users to have their "identity stolen" for bad, even harmful purposes.

The Department of Information Security ( Ministry of Information and Communications ) warns that most online face editing activities require the provision of personal facial images, posing many potential risks to information security. Mr. Nguyen Duy Khiem, representative of the Department of Information Security, said: "In addition to requiring users to provide images, most applications also request access to photo libraries, phone cameras, as well as access to email addresses, phone numbers, etc. On that basis, service providers can collect information and process users' personal information for different purposes."

In fact, with personal portrait images provided by users, application owners can create other images, even making deepfake data cause many unpredictable consequences.
