According to RMC Sport, Mbappe received only one vote in the PSG captaincy election. This sole vote is said to belong to Hakimi Achraf.
Meanwhile, the winner of the election was Marquinhos with a far greater number of votes than other competitors. Last season, the Brazilian midfielder also played the role of captain of PSG in the 2022-2023 season. Marquinhos is considered to have more than enough leadership ability when holding the position under both coach Mauricio Pochettino and coach Christophe Galtier.

Despite only receiving 1 vote, Mbappe was still assigned the responsibility of being 1 of 3 vice-captains of PSG. Therefore, the French striker still has the opportunity to wear the captain's armband in the 2023-2024 season. However, the priority order for the 2018 World Cup champion's captain's armband is the last of the 3 vice-captains, in order: Danilo Pereira, Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe.
Despite only having 1 vote, Mbappe still took on the role of vice-captain after returning and showing his influence.
The vote was held when coach Luis Enrique did not want to interfere in the decision to give the captain's armband and wanted the players in the team to choose for themselves.
French media believe that Mbappe's position will only truly return when he decides to negotiate a contract extension. PSG is still hoping to keep Mbappe with a new contract until June 2025 with a departure clause in June 2024.
