Real Madrid will enter the final match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup group stage, against Salzburg at 8am tomorrow morning (June 27), in the context of continuing to be absent Kylian Mbappe.

According to COPE, although Mbappe has returned to training after being hospitalized for acute gastritis, Xabi Alonso decided not to take a risk with the French striker.

The reason is that Mbappe needs to regain his fitness and stamina after a worrying weight loss – down to 5kg, from 75kg to 70kg. He is said to have lost up to 4kg of muscle, making his body look less strong.

According to leaked information from Real Madrid, Mbappe has lost muscle mass since the end of the 2024/25 season. The 26-year-old star looks thinner, lacks vitality, dribbles less and has less influence in training matches.

In fact, the French captain contracted the virus in Madrid before arriving in the US on June 14. He developed a high fever that led to acute gastritis, which required hospitalization in Miami. Due to dehydration, Mbappe lost 5kg (11lbs) and muscle mass.

Mbappe's condition has Real Madrid's medical team worried. Some fitness experts believe that losing a significant amount of muscle mass at this stage could affect the number 9 striker's explosive performance in the first matches of his return.

Xabi Alonso hopes Mbappe can return to the Real Madrid squad after they complete their group stage with a match against Salzburg, booking a ticket to the last 16 of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
