Multiple sources confirm that Lionel Messi has reached an agreement to join Inter Miami this summer.
Inter Miami has been pursuing Messi since last summer.
Renowned Argentinian journalist Hernan Castillo reports that Messi's next destination will be the MLS. Ole, a local Argentinian newspaper, reveals that nothing is finalized yet. However, Inter Miami has quietly approached Messi and is gradually achieving their goal. This information has also been confirmed by Gerard Romero, a journalist close to Barca.
Last week, Sport (Spain) reported that Inter Miami had offered Messi a salary of 50 million euros per season. The Argentine superstar would sign a four-year contract. This figure is still far short of the 1.2 billion euro offer for two years at Al Hilal.
Messi has clearly expressed his desire to return to Barca. However, financial difficulties have prevented the Camp Nou club from reuniting with the club legend. Meanwhile, Inter Miami is still closely following the Messi transfer saga and has made a substantial offer to him.
In late 2020, Messi revealed his dream of playing in the United States at the end of his career. In March, Don Garber, CEO of MLS, stated: “If that could happen (Messi playing in the US), it would be fantastic for MLS, Messi, and his family. We will try to take advantage of every opportunity. I can’t give any more details because we don’t have them.”
If Messi joins Inter Miami, he will follow in the footsteps of predecessors like David Beckham, Kaka, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to play football in the United States. With the record-breaking €2.34 billion television rights deal signed with tech giant Apple, the MLS hopes to attract world-class stars like Messi to increase its appeal.
Inter Miami has just sacked head coach Phil Neville due to poor results. Javier Morales is currently serving as interim coach until the team finds a new manager.
