Copilot is a generative AI chatbot that can generate text and other content like a human with just a few keywords. It relies on a large language model (LLM) that OpenAI has trained from numerous datasets to compose emails, answer questions, and automate tasks on Windows, combined with information from websites.
AI chatbots will power the world's most popular computer operating system. Meanwhile, this weekend, Microsoft began selling Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI utility for users of its office suite.
Desktop-specific features in Windows Copilot include the ability to open apps, switch to dark mode, enable Bluetooth, and take screenshots.
When you open a website in Edge, Copilot will summarize what's on the page. On Apple's Mac, you can talk to Siri, but the assistant's responses aren't as detailed as Windows Copilot.
Windows 11 accounts for about 24% of the desktop market, according to data from research firm StatCounter, while Windows 10 – which is supported until October 2025 – has 72% of the market. After that, Windows 11 will become more popular. According to CEO Satya Nadella, Microsoft has seen rapid adoption of Microsoft globally from companies such as BP, Eurowings, Kantar and RBC.
The Windows operating system still plays an important role for the American technology giant, bringing in 1/10 of its total revenue. Microsoft wants Windows to maintain its position because it is the foundation for Microsoft 365 and the growth springboard for its public cloud service Azure.
Copilot is perhaps the most notable feature of this year's Windows 11 update. Clicking the new Copilot icon in the taskbar or pressing the Windows + C key combination will open a panel on the right side of the screen, allowing users to interact with the virtual assistant.
In addition to Copilot, there are also new features on Windows 11 2023 Update (23H2) such as virtual video editor, energy saving (turn off the screen when not looking at the screen), smart screenshot (allows copying text from screenshots), AI integration for Paint application (enter some characters for Paint to create images)...
To update Windows 23H2, users open the Settings app > Windows Update > Check for Updates.
