Ambassador Omar Zniber was elected after a secret ballot, attended by all 47 members of the UN Human Rights Council.
Mr. Omar Zniber shared that this is an honor for Morocco in general and for him personally. Now he will carry out his mission to meet the common work requirement, which is very important and fundamental, which is to promote, respect and ensure human rights globally.
Ambassador Zniber will assume the role of President of the UN Human Rights Council immediately. Meanwhile, Ambassador Febrian Ruddyard of Indonesia, Ambassador Darius Staniulis of Lithuania, Ambassador Marcelo Eliseo Scappini Ricciard of Uruguay, and Ambassador Heidi Schroderus-Fox of Finland will assume the positions of Vice-Presidents of the UN Human Rights Council in 2024.
Mr. Omar Zniber has been serving as Permanent Representative of the Moroccan Mission to the UN Office in Geneva since 2018. Prior to his appointment in Geneva, Mr. Zniber served as Morocco's Ambassador to Germany since January 2012.
