Over the past 20 days, nearly 100 meters of coastline in Bao Ninh commune, Dong Hoi city ( Quang Binh province) has experienced erosion, posing a danger to several structures and the landscape. Currently, authorities are seeking solutions to address the problem.
Erosion waves have created a trench more than 2 meters high at Bao Ninh beach.
According to observations by Thanh Niên reporters, nearly 100 meters of coastline in Bảo Ninh have been eroded by waves, creating a chasm more than 2 meters high.
Bao Ninh beach is a popular tourist destination during the peak season, so erosion by waves, encroaching further inland, will affect the quality of tourism services in Quang Binh.
Mr. Tran Duy Khanh, Director of the Public Service Management Board of Dong Hoi City, said that he has advised his superiors to quickly develop a plan to address the coastal erosion phenomenon.
"We just held a meeting on this issue. The provincial leaders have instructed that a plan must be put in place soon to avoid undesirable consequences. In the past, even in years with heavy rain and storms, this coastline has never experienced such severe erosion, and it's even stranger considering the weather has been very normal in recent days," Mr. Khanh said.
The wooden fences and sandbag barriers designed to prevent wave damage have been destroyed. The severe coastal erosion will likely impact Quang Binh's upcoming tourist season.
According to Mr. Khanh, this phenomenon has been occurring for about 20 days now, with sea waves encroaching almost to public infrastructure. Recently, the Dong Hoi City Public Service Management Board erected a wooden fence and sandbag embankment in front of the lamppost to prevent seawater intrusion, but the fence still collapsed. Authorities were forced to remove the lamppost to ensure safety.
