Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that in the city, there has just been a case of monkeypox that died due to the patient's immunodeficiency.
The Department has directed the establishment of a professional council to analyze and make an official conclusion about the case.

Specifically, the patient is a 30-year-old man who was treated for monkeypox for more than 10 days at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City. This is one of 18 monkeypox cases with HIV currently being treated at this hospital. Today, the Expert Council will meet to analyze and conclude on this death case.
According to the summary report of the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases, the male patient, born in 1994, residing in Moc Hoa, Long An province, was admitted to the hospital on October 2, 2023 due to fever and blisters for 9 days. The patient was hospitalized for isolation and treatment, and the test for blister lesions had a positive PCR result for Mpox.
The patient had severe immunodeficiency with a positive HIV test and CD4 T cells 1/uL.
The patient had severe systemic infection with invasive candidiasis, Pneumocystis jirovecii infection, disseminated tuberculosis, then progressed to septic shock, severe multiple organ failure. The patient was treated intensively with antibiotics, antifungals, antituberculosis, mechanical ventilation, and blood filtration. However, the condition worsened and he died after 18 days of intensive treatment.
Previously, according to a report from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, there are currently 20 cases of monkeypox being treated at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases. Notably, there are 18 cases that are HIV positive.
