A company of mine has just successfully raised capital from a large corporation. This result comes from my relationship with the corporation's chairman for more than 20 years.

A 75-year study by Harvard University has also proven: Good relationships make us happier and healthier.

So what are the relationships that young people need to build? In my opinion, you need to clearly define your life goals and the person you want to become.

Who do you want to become in the near future (short-term period of 2-3 years) and in the long term? Put yourself in that position, consider and evaluate to become that person, what kind of relationships do you need. From there, you proactively participate in appropriate environments to build the necessary relationships.

Relationships are vital for entrepreneurs, and you need them too.

A young entrepreneur asked me what relationships he needs to build. In my opinion, to help his business be effective, young entrepreneurs need to have the following relationships:

1. Relationships with a few experts in your field, whom I like to call gurus. They are people who can help us navigate the path ahead and point out areas where we are lacking.

2. A community of business people doing business in the same industry with a spirit of cooperation, sincerity and mutual development. Because, in today's economy , if you cooperate with units that are supposed to be competitors, it will help you limit losses and damage. Note that the important thing in this relationship is "mutual benefit".

3. State agencies involved in their fields of operation, especially local authorities, tax, investment, police...

4. Entrepreneur Community: This is where you can seek advice and introduce customers to you. At the same time, you will also have the opportunity to learn and make more close friends, helping to balance your life.

5. Investors and credit institutions, because in business relations, the element of calling for investment capital or borrowing from banks is indispensable.

6. Staff, this is the team that you share values with, cooperate well to develop the company.

7. Family relationships.

8. A few close friends, maybe high school friends, college friends, colleagues or business friends. These are people who always support you and are willing to share with you the difficulties in life. Because one of the characteristics of business people, especially in senior leadership positions, is loneliness. They really need people to share with during difficult times.

How essential is relationship building?

The nature of a relationship is two-way - give and take and bring value to each other.

Previously, I was assigned to run a gas company that was in crisis, production was decreasing and customers were complaining. I spent six months visiting all customers from Da Nang to Ca Mau . I tried to quickly solve the difficulties that customers were facing and help them develop their business.

I plan to talk on the phone with my clients at least once a week to maintain relationships and stay informed about the market.

Customers saw my interest in their business; at the same time, their business results were much better, so they trusted and cooperated.

Thanks to the important support of customers, the gas company I ran was revived and its output increased, returning to the leading position in the Vietnamese market at that time.

From then on, I was imbued with the philosophy: to build a sustainable relationship, we must bring value to each other.

I also want to emphasize the message: Improve yourself, become a valuable and prestigious person so that people around you want to be friends with you.

Always be positive, optimistic, willing to listen, share and help those around you selflessly. Bring value and joy to others and you will surely have long-term relationships.

Quality relationships are intangible but very valuable assets and I believe you will receive "returns" from this asset throughout your life.

A common question is: I am a new employee. How can I build good relationships with my colleagues?

You are a new employee in a group, you can:

- Strive to work best and most professionally.

- Positive attitude, willing to help and support others in work and life.

- Willing to listen and learn from colleagues.

- Be aware of building organizational culture, creating a friendly and positive working environment.
