The Lunar New Year 2025 is approaching, businesses and producers of various types of dried fish and sausages are busy preparing their goods to be ready to "launch" to the market right on the occasion of Tet.


Because in addition to agricultural products, fresh meat and fish, users also choose to buy dried fish of all kinds and Chinese sausages. These are dried foods that can be kept for a long time, are quick to prepare, are delicious, and are suitable for entertaining guests when they come to visit during the New Year.

These days, Ms. Hua Thi Lan Anh, Bung Trop A hamlet, An Hiep commune, Chau Thanh district ( Soc Trang ) has prepared a large quantity of dried fish to sell to the market. According to Ms. Lan Anh, she has been making dried fish for sale for more than 10 years. In the 5th year of "starting a business" with the profession of drying snakehead fish, she has expanded the scale of dried fish production, because she has received support from the professional industry with a drying machine.

Since 2020, the amount of fresh fish imported daily is 500kg, the average monthly output of dried fish to the market is 3 tons. All types of dried fish are popular with consumers and are often sold to customers in and outside the province, including retail at traditional markets in the district.

During the Lunar New Year 2024 alone, the amount of dried fruit sold in the Tet market is 5 tons. As for the upcoming Lunar New Year 2025, Ms. Lan Anh is busy with workers producing dried fruit, supplying it to the market and the dried fruit has been continuously ordered by customers.

However, this year's dry season has seen a decrease in dried fruit output compared to the same period last year, due to the lack of raw materials, pushing raw material prices up by 20-30% compared to last year's dry season. It is estimated that the dried fruit output supplied to the market for the Lunar New Year 2025 will be more than 3.5 tons.

Prices of dried fish of all kinds such as: whole bone dried fish, boneless dried fish, hard dried fish, dried fish fillet... range from 220,000 - 300,000 VND/kg (depending on the type). If the price of raw fish increases near Tet, the price of dried fish will increase further, but the increase will only be 20 - 30%/kg.

In addition to dried snakehead fish, Chinese sausage is considered a "hot" product during Tet. Currently, many businesses and sausage production facilities are increasing their capacity to increase sausage production to supply the Tet market. Some traditional handmade sausage production locations are also mobilizing labor to produce sausage according to customer orders.

With over 30 years of experience in making traditional sausages, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Ha, An Trach hamlet, An Hiep commune, Chau Thanh district (Soc Trang) supplies the market with dozens of kilograms of finished sausages every day.

Ms. Ngoc Ha confided: "I make handmade sausages so customers really like to buy them, because I carefully select the ingredients and process them carefully, including the stage of watching the fire to dry the sausages, the fire must ensure a stable heat so the sausages are very delicious, rich in flavor. I make sausages every day for retail and wholesale, on average, I sell more than 600kg of finished sausages to the market every month, selling at 250,000 VND/kg.

During the Lunar New Year every year, the quantity of sausage produced will increase nearly double the normal month. For this upcoming Lunar New Year, I have prepared more than 2 tons of finished sausage to supply to the market and the selling price is still kept at 250,000 VND/kg, only near Tet will the price increase by about 10-20%/kg."

Comrade Bui Bao Quoc - Vice Chairman of An Hiep Commune People's Committee said that in the commune, there are 2 households producing dried snakehead fish to supply the market, of which the dried snakehead fish business household Hua Thi Lan Anh has a dried snakehead fish product that has achieved 3 OCOP stars.

The quantity of dried snakehead fish is well supplied to the market by producers on normal days, especially during the Lunar New Year every year, the quantity of dried fish produced increases.

In addition, the commune also has dozens of enterprises and establishments producing sausages of large, small and medium scale, including traditional handmade sausage production, creating an abundant source of sausage products to supply the market in and outside the province during Tet, serving the export market. Most of the products ensure good food hygiene and safety according to the regulations of the professional sector.

Lunar New Year is the occasion for every family and every person to have a chance to rest after a year of hard work and to meet and visit relatives and friends. Therefore, the purchase of essential goods and food for oneself, family and as gifts for relatives and friends will increase a lot.

However, to buy safe foods, consumers need to buy products with clear origins, packaging printed with production date and expiry date. Especially when shopping, people can pay more attention to choosing to buy products that have achieved OCOP star of Soc Trang province. Because OCOP star products have been assessed and approved by specialized sectors for food safety and hygiene quality.
