According to many experienced vegetable growers, the prerequisite for a successful crop in the rainy season is that the bed system must be raised and have an active drainage system to prevent local flooding. Therefore, vegetable growers should choose high ground or fields with banks to avoid flooding when planting. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan (Hiep Thanh commune, Bac Lieu city) shared: “If in the dry season we have to water regularly to ensure that vegetables grow well, then in the rainy season like now, drainage is the deciding factor. Besides, heavy rain also damages vegetable sprouts when they first sprout and crushes leaves when they are mature. Depending on each stage, growers must take appropriate care. In return, the selling price is usually 5,000 - 2,000 VND/kg higher depending on the type, so vegetable growers also have a good income”.

Vegetables are short-term crops but require a lot of care. Therefore, applying the correct and sufficient technical processes in cultivation helps farmers limit arising difficulties as well as increase income. Using straw and film to cover the bed surface will help the bed to limit erosion, fertilizer washout, limit damage to vegetables, and increase productivity. In addition, using organic fertilizers instead of inorganic fertilizers also helps vegetables grow quickly and have strong roots.

In addition, vegetable growers also need to pay attention to pest management, creating conditions for healthy vegetable growth. Specifically, vegetables should be planted at moderate density, limiting sowing and planting densely to create a well-ventilated environment, reduce humidity, and limit the emergence of pathogens.
