On April 27, Mr. Le Viet Nam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Glei District ( Kon Tum ), said that the district had completed collecting people's opinions and officially approved the plan to rename 6 new communes after implementing the arrangement of commune-level administrative units.
Ngoc Linh Mountain is the junction between Kon Tum and Quang Nam provinces, with an altitude of 2,600 m above sea level, considered the roof of the Central Highlands.

Accordingly, the 6 communes after the arrangement of administrative units in Dak Glei district include: Dak Mon, Dak Pek, Xop, Dak Plo, Dak Long and Ngoc Linh. In which, the name of Ngoc Linh commune received much consensus from local people because for the Xo Dang people, Ngoc Linh is the name of the sacred mountain of the whole community.
Ngoc Linh commune was formed from two communes, Ngoc Linh and Muong Hoong. After the merger, the commune has an area of about 18,000 hectares with a population of about 6,125 people. Of which, 98% are ethnic minorities.
Ngoc Linh Mountain is the border between Quang Nam and Kon Tum provinces, the height of the mountain is about 2,600 m above sea level. With this height, Ngoc Linh Mountain is considered the roof of the Central Highlands.
