According to Corriere dello Sport , the "Red Devils" decided to keep Zirkzee and look to sell Hojlund, even though both did not leave much of an impression last season.
Once expected to be the team's number one striker when joining from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 for a fee of up to 72 million pounds, Hojlund only scored 10 goals in the entire 2024/25 season, a modest number compared to the expectations for the most expensive contract in the history of Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Zirkzee, who joined from Bologna for £36.5m in the summer of 2024, has only contributed 7 goals, but is considered more suitable for the system that new coach Arne Slot is building. The Dutch player impressed when he was pulled down to play in an attacking role, where he could develop his dribbling ability and link up the midfield.

Inter Milan have begun negotiations with Man Utd over Hojlund. The Milanese club want to loan the Danish striker with an almost mandatory buyout clause, while Man Utd are hoping to earn at least 45 million euros (38 million pounds), accepting a heavy loss compared to the initial investment.
However, Hojlund himself seemed quite surprised by the rumors about his future. In an interview during the meeting with the Danish national team, the 22-year-old striker affirmed: "I have a contract with Man Utd until 2030 and plan to continue playing there. I don't care about the rumors and am just preparing for the summer holidays as well as the upcoming season."
While Hojlund’s future remains uncertain, United have completed a major transfer this summer, spending £62.5m to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Cunha is not a natural centre-forward, but his ability to play wide, his versatility and his 15 Premier League goals last season have made him a key part of United’s new attack.
However, coach Ruben Amorim still wants to add at least one more top-class striker, with names like Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko or Santiago Gimenez. In that context, selling Hojlund may not only be a professional decision, but also a strategic move to balance finances and pave the way for better quality recruits.
