Mr. Trinh The Binh - Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Mu Cang Chai district said: "With over 90% of the population being Mong people, Mu Cang Chai has many unique customs and cultural features as well as majestic and beautiful natural landscapes. Therefore, promoting local strengths, the district has always focused on preserving and restoring festivals, organizing folk cultural activities and traditional crafts to serve tourism development.
Typical examples include: To Day Flower Festival, New Rice Celebration, Mong Panpipe Festival; annual activities to celebrate Independence Day on September 2 with traditional Mong spinning top games, organizing trade fairs, highland market activities; goat fighting, fast rice harvesting, good plowing, drawing patterns on fabric with beeswax... attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to visit and experience.
In addition, Mu Cang Chai also focuses on building mass art teams associated with community tourism villages to serve tourists. Currently, in addition to professional art teams and teams in agencies, organizations and careers, 100% of communes and towns in the district as well as most villages in the communes have mass art teams, contributing to preserving and promoting local art forms.
Mr. Giang Su Giang, an artisan in Hang Phu Loa village, Mo De commune, said: "With more than 40 years of experience in the field of making and performing Mong panpipes, along with training, I always actively teach the younger generation to preserve and promote them in the future. Among them, dozens of people have come to learn how to make them and 2 students are now making quality panpipes for use and sale; about the art of dancing, blowing, and performing, I have also taught many local youths, currently not counting those who know little, only those who have performed fluently and are qualified to become panpipe teachers, there are 8 people. Recently, I was also invited by the district to participate as a lecturer teaching panpipe making to a class of 10 students in the commune."
Up to now, 100% of schools in the district have included traditional culturaleducation in schools, implemented the "Tourism School" model in 7 schools; 100% of communes and towns have maintained regular activities of traditional art troupes; 50% of villages and residential groups have maintained regular activities of traditional art troupes... and 7 more artisans in folk performing arts and folk knowledge have been recognized; many new clubs have been established to preserve traditional culture in schools and villages.
With the attention, investment, improvement of the quality of tourist services as well as the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values, Mu Cang Chai has welcomed over 350,000 tourists in 2022, reaching 166.7% of the plan, 3.3 times higher than the same period; bringing in revenue of more than 270 billion VND from tourism activities, reaching 174.2% of the plan, 4.5 times higher than the same period. New tourism products, diverse traditional cultural values are preserved and promoted, contributing to bringing Mu Cang Chai closer to the goal of building the district into a "Green - Identity - Safe - Friendly" tourist district.
