Muong Bang, many households voluntarily escape poverty

The new Muong Bang commune was established on the basis of the arrangement of three communes: Muong Bang, Muong Do and Muong Lang of the old Phu Yen district, which are far from the center and still have many difficulties. However, from 2022 to now, many households have voluntarily applied to be removed from the poor household status, reflecting the change in awareness and will to rise of the people.

Muong Bang is a remote commune with many difficulties, the poverty rate in 2024 is about 40%. Helping people develop the economy and escape poverty, in recent years, Muong Bang commune has effectively promoted capital from national target programs focusing on building infrastructure. Up to now, most of the roads from the commune to the village have been paved. The commune focuses on guiding people to change the structure of crops and livestock towards commodity production; applying technical advances to production.

Effectively promote the support capital from national target programs for sustainable poverty reduction to support people in economic development. From 2023 to present, more than 100 poor households have been supported with teak seedlings, some other timber trees along with fruit trees and medicinal plants to create livelihoods for people. Up to now, people have been mobilized to plant nearly 100 hectares of new teak trees on degraded hill land; 15 hectares of passion fruit; over 20 hectares of cardamom...

Comrade Phan Quy Duong, Secretary of the Muong Bang Commune Party Committee, said: Along with building infrastructure systems and supporting people to develop the economy, in response to the movement to join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses launched by the Prime Minister , Muong Bang Commune has reviewed and supported over 50 houses in need of repair and new construction. Along with the support of the State, the villages in the commune have propagated and mobilized people to support working days to transport materials, level the ground, and build houses for poor households. Up to now, Muong Bang no longer has temporary or dilapidated houses.

With the attention and support of all levels, sectors and the efforts of households, the poverty rate of Muong Bang commune has decreased by an average of 3% per year. In 2023, the commune had the first 7 households write a petition to be removed from the commune's list of poor households. In 2024, 19 more households continued to write a petition to be removed from the list of poor households.

Sharing with us about the voluntary applications to escape poverty, Mr. Luong Van Vuong, Vice Chairman of Muong Bang Commune People's Committee, said: The commune and village have commended and rewarded households in Party cell activities and village meetings to spread the spirit of self-reliance among the people. At the same time, we continue to propagate and mobilize people to strive to rise up, actively work in production, boldly change the structure of crops and livestock, apply techniques to production, increase income, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.

Currently, Muong Bang commune has about 5,000 households receiving preferential loans from the Phu Yen Social Policy Bank Transaction Office with a total outstanding loan of over 100 billion VND to invest in production and business. Instructing families to use loans effectively, especially exploiting the advantages of grazing areas; planting 50 hectares of elephant grass to proactively provide animal feed. Currently, the commune's total livestock herd is nearly 10,300. Muong Bang commune continues to connect with businesses to implement vocational training programs, recruit local workers to work in industrial parks outside the province, creating jobs and income for workers.

Thanks to preferential policies and support for poor households, Mr. Ha Van Thuc's family in Bang village, Muong Bang commune, no longer expects support from the State. His family voluntarily applied to be removed from the list of poor households in October 2024. Mr. Thuc shared: My family has 6 members, and was on the list of poor households in the commune from 2014 to the end of 2024. Currently, the family has 3 cows raised in the form of fattening, combined with cultivation, with the State supporting production land with an area of 5,000 m² of hill garden and teak seedlings. Life has gradually improved.

Mr. Ha Van Phi, Bang village, Muong Bang commune, wrote in his application to escape poverty: For the past 6 years, my family has enjoyed support policies from the State. Although there are still difficulties, it is much better than before. Now I am writing this application, asking to be removed from the list of poor households of the commune and give up the opportunity to enjoy support policies to more difficult households in the village and commune. With 3,000 m² of production land supported by the State and a loan of 50 million VND from the Social Policy Bank, I invest in raising cows combined with growing crops, my family's life will gradually improve.

Despite the difficulties, the voluntary applications to escape poverty demonstrate the determination, will to rise up, the spirit of self-reliance and the hope to change life for the better of the people of Muong Bang commune. We believe that when this spirit spreads throughout the community, it will become a driving force to promote sustainable poverty reduction in the revolutionary homeland of Muong Bang.
