That's because Washington has spent most of the $48 billion aid package approved by Congress in December.
According to the source, the US has only about $6 billion left to buy weapons and supplies for Kiev, meaning US aid to Ukrainian forces could soon be stopped.
Members of Congress are reportedly alarmed that the White House may soon be unable to provide military aid to Ukraine, especially as Kiev plans a counterattack against Russia.
“It is critical that the administration promptly provide Ukraine with what it needs,” Sen. Susan Collins told Pentagon leaders last week.
The White House is discussing a completely new aid package designed to keep supplies flowing to Ukraine, Politico reported.
Currently, the Biden administration is at an impasse with the Republican-led House of Representatives over raising the US debt ceiling. Washington is saddled with an estimated public debt of more than $31 trillion and is at risk of default.
