According to ABC News , a statement on May 30 from the US Indo- Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) said the Chinese aircraft's actions caused the US aircraft to shake because it had to fly through its turbulence zone.

INDOPACOM called the intercept "unprofessional" and an "unnecessarily provocative" act, and released cockpit video of the RC-135 showing the Chinese J-16 crossing the flight path of the US aircraft at a distance of 400 feet (122 m).
"The RC-135 is conducting safe and routine operations in the East Sea in international airspace, in accordance with international law," INDOPACOM emphasized; reaffirming that the US will continue to fly, sail and operate safely and responsibly wherever international law allows.
"We expect all nations in the Indo- Pacific region to use international airspace safely and in accordance with international law," the statement added.
The South China Morning Post quoted Liu Pengyu, spokesman for the Beijing embassy in Washington, as calling US spying activities in the region "a serious danger to China's national security."
“For a long time, the US has frequently deployed aircraft and ships to spy on China, which has seriously endangered China’s national security. The US’s provocative and dangerous moves are the root cause of maritime security problems,” Liu said.
The spokesperson also stressed that China demands that the US stop "provocative actions" and stop blaming China, affirming that the country "will continue to take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard its sovereignty and security, and cooperate with countries in the region to firmly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea."
