According to CNN, during his visit to Canada, US President Joe Biden and host country Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held talks, in which the two leaders pledged to jointly improve the North American Aerospace Defense System (NORAD), update the agreement on cross-border asylum seekers and establish a task force on energy transition within a year.
The Trudeau government will spend 250 million CAD ($181.94 million) on the domestic semiconductor industry to boost research, development and manufacturing, the Prime Minister's Office said.
The two sides pledged to protect shared maritime territory and the Arctic ecosystem, and to strengthen global alliances such as NATO and the United Nations . The joint statement also confirmed that the Safe Third Country Agreement will apply to official points of entry and exit along the land border between Canada and the United States . Canada also agreed to accept an additional 15,000 Western Hemisphere migrants over the next year.
