Mr. Nguyen Van Viet - Director of the Planning Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the context of many difficulties and challenges, especially in the export market of forestry and aquatic products, the total added value (GDP) of the whole industry increased, estimated at 3.83%. This is the highest growth rate in the past 10 years.
Agriculture continues to affirm its important position as a pillar of the economy, firmly ensuring food security, major economic balances and contributing to macroeconomic stability.
Rice output reached 43.4 million tons, up 1.7% compared to 2022, fresh meat output of all kinds reached 7.6 million tons, up 3.5%; aquatic product output reached 9.3 million tons, up 2.9%.
Total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 53.01 billion USD, trade surplus reached a record 12.07 billion USD, up 43.7%, accounting for over 42.5% of the country's trade surplus.
Regarding the 6 export items with turnover of over 3 billion USD, including: vegetables and fruits reached 5.69 billion USD, up 69.2%; rice 4.78 billion USD, up 38.4%; cashew nuts 3.63 billion USD, up 17.6%; coffee 4.18 billion USD, up 3.1%; shrimp 3.38 billion USD, down 21.7%; wood and wood products 13.37 billion USD, down 16.5%.
"Notably, some export items increased to record highs such as: Vegetables and fruits reached 5.69 billion USD, up 69.2%, rice reached 4.78 billion USD, up 38.4%," said Mr. Viet.
The number of OCOP products with 3 stars or more has increased steadily over the months and reached 11,000 products (an increase of 2,189 products compared to 2022). Many activities have created favorable conditions for businesses to promote and consume products.
By 2023, about 78% of communes nationwide will meet new rural standards, of which 256 will meet model new rural standards. 270 district-level units will be recognized for completing the task of meeting new rural standards. Mr. Viet said that in 2024, the agriculture and rural development sector aims for GDP growth of the whole sector at 3.0 - 3.5%; in which, the growth rate of production value in the crop sector will increase by 2.0 - 2.2%; livestock production will increase by 4.0 - 5.0%; and aquaculture will increase by 3.7 - 4%.
Total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is about 54 - 55 billion USD. The rate of communes meeting new rural standards is 80%. The forest coverage rate remains stable at 42.02%, improving forest quality; the growth rate of forestry production value is 5.0 - 5.5%.
