On June 14, Permanent Vice Chairman of Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee Tran Anh Dung informed that the Provincial People's Committee has just issued a decision approving the investment policy of Nghia Hung Inland Waterway Port project (phase 1); investment capital is more than 3,400 billion VND.
The project's objective is to build a modern port system to meet cargo handling activities; warehousing and storage of goods; other support services related to transportation; direct support services for railway transport; direct support services for waterway transport.

The project covers an area of approximately 89.4 hectares of land (of which construction land is approximately 77.1 hectares, Day River dike protection corridor land is approximately 12.3 hectares) and 142.1 hectares of Day River water surface, including construction items built according to the master plan and licensed according to regulations. The designed capacity is approximately 10.15 million tons/year.
The project's operating period is 70 years from the date the project is approved for investment policy and the investor is approved. The basic construction progress and putting the project into operation is 48 months from the date of land handover at the site.
The People's Committee of Nam Dinh province assigned the Department of Finance, Department of Construction, Department of Agriculture and Environment, Center for Public Administration Services, Administrative Procedure Control and Investment Promotion and related units according to their assigned functions and tasks to guide, support, urge and supervise Nghia Hung Port Joint Stock Company to resolve and carry out the procedures and next tasks of the project in the industry sector according to regulations.
Assign the People's Committee of Nghia Hung district, the People's Committees of Nam Dien and Nghia Hai communes and related units to perform local supervision functions during the construction process and when the project comes into operation according to regulations.
The National Assembly has just officially passed a resolution on merging provincial-level administrative units in 2025. Accordingly, the country officially has 34 provinces and cities (6 centrally-run cities and 28 provinces).
It is expected that on June 30, all provinces and cities will simultaneously announce the administrative boundaries of provinces and communes.
In which, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh provinces merged into a new province called Ninh Binh province. After the arrangement, the new Ninh Binh province has an area of over 3,942 km2, a population of over 4.4 million people, with 129 commune-level administrative units (including 97 communes and 32 wards).
