Improving the quality of teaching staff at the Naval Academy

The Naval Academy is assigned the task of training officers from the platoon level with university degrees to masters, doctors of military science and some other types of training according to assigned tasks. To meet the requirements in the new situation, the Academy builds a team of lecturers in the direction of "standardization", "modernization" to ensure inheritance, development and harmonious combination between age-knowledge-experience, between generations of lecturers, meeting immediate and long-term requirements. The Academy selects a number of excellent graduates and graduates from schools inside and outside the military, meeting the standards of quality, capacity, health, and wishing to work at the Academy to train and create a source of lecturers.

Graduated with honors in the Naval Academy's Naval Artillery major, Le Hong Thai was recruited into the teaching staff. After two years of practical training at the unit and completing his master's degree, Le Hong Thai officially became a lecturer in the Naval Artillery Department, Missile-Armored Department. Captain, MSc. Le Hong Thai said: "When I entered the Academy, after the learning process, I began to strive to become a lecturer. From that time, in addition to completing well the learning and training tasks of an officer trainee, I actively self-studied and researched information technology and other content related to the major to be able to meet the requirements of a lecturer."

Based on the correct assessment of the quality and capacity of the teaching staff, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Academy regularly pay attention to and create conditions for the teaching staff to develop and contribute. The Academy has encouraged lecturers to self-study and self-train while expanding joint training and linking with schools inside and outside the military and foreign schools. Along with that, the Academy supports training costs, ensures public housing, consolidates and upgrades places to eat, rest, study, and work, and effectively implements military rear policies... creating conditions for the teaching staff to work with peace of mind.

Focusing on training and improving the professional qualifications of the teaching staff, the Naval Academy has promoted the scientific research movement, promoting technical innovation initiatives into practice. The Missile and Artillery Department is one of the focal points with many topics and technical innovation initiatives with high intellectual content, effectively applied to the teaching process. The products have helped students have a vivid visual view, improve practical skills and the ability to self-study and research.

Colonel, PhD, Pham Quang Hieu, Head of the Missile - Naval Artillery Department said: “Over the years, we have carried out many topics and technical innovation initiatives with high scientific value and practicality. The scientific research products and technical innovation initiatives of the department have been effectively applied in practice, contributing to improving the quality of specialized training at the Naval Academy”.

In the 2022-2023 school year, the Naval Academy has implemented: 5 topics at the Ministry of National Defense level; 1 provincial-level topic; 5 topics at the Army level; 16 topics at the academy level; 12 topics and initiatives at the industry level. In 2022 alone, the Academy's technical innovation topics and initiatives have achieved: 1 A prize, 7 B prizes, 1 C prize of the Nguyen Phan Vinh Award and 1 Third prize, 4 Encouragement prizes of the Creative Youth Award in the Army.

Promoting resources, focusing on creating favorable conditions for lecturers to study, research, and teach, the Academy has been investing and upgrading facilities, supplementing modern teaching aids and equipment; building specialized classrooms, smart laboratories... The entire Academy regularly organizes methodological activities such as: Trial teaching, model teaching, and lecturer training. Knowledge of pedagogical skills, teaching methods, knowledge of new and specialized technical equipment and weapons are regularly updated for lecturers.

Discussing the implementation of Project 3525 dated August 3, 2023 of the Ministry of National Defense on "Building a team of teachers and educational managers in the Army for the period 2023-2030 and the following years", Colonel, Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Vinh Tuyen, Deputy Director of the Naval Academy said: "Focusing on building a team of lecturers, we pay attention to planning, training, rotation, and fostering of cadres and lecturers. The Academy always encourages young lecturers to study at training institutions in the country and abroad, to do practical work at the unit and to add more and more cadres who have been through practical work at the unit to the Academy to teach".

With consistent and appropriate policies and solutions, the Naval Academy has so far built a team of lecturers that is on par with its tasks, with sufficient quantity, quality assurance and reasonable structure. This is truly the core force, a solid foundation for training high-quality human resources to meet the requirements and tasks of building the Service and the Army in the new situation.

Currently, 100% of the Naval Academy's lecturers have university degrees, more than 86% have postgraduate degrees, nearly 20% have PhDs, 5 associate professors, 3 comrades have completed their defense of the title of professor and associate professor at the basic council, 53 senior lecturers and main lecturers, and many comrades are excellent lecturers at all levels.
