Over the years, the "Gratitude and Repayment" movement to care for those who have rendered meritorious service to the revolution in Phu Ninh district has become increasingly profound, spreading strongly and creating a positive effect in the community.

A reporter from Phu Tho Newspaper had a conversation with Comrade Trinh Duc Lai - Member of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Ninh District - about the noble gestures demonstrating the responsibility and affection of the Party Committee, government, and community in implementing the traditional gratitude of the nation, caring for the material and spiritual lives of wounded soldiers, families of martyrs, and those who have contributed to the revolution in the district.

Reporter: Could you please tell us how many people with meritorious service and families entitled to preferential policies are currently receiving state benefits in the district?

Comrade Trinh Duc Lai: Throughout the resistance wars against France and the US, and in the building and protection of the Fatherland, the entire district has over 10,000 people who have contributed to the revolution, including 1,369 martyrs, 100 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, 11 veteran revolutionary cadres, 22 pre-revolution cadres, and 3 Heroes of the People's Armed Forces...

Currently, the entire district has 1,975 individuals receiving monthly allowances, including 1 Heroic Vietnamese Mother, 1 Hero of the People's Armed Forces, 733 war invalids and those receiving benefits similar to war invalids, 275 sick soldiers, 33 service personnel, 451 resistance fighters and their children affected by chemical toxins, 436 recipients of survivor's benefits, 11 resistance fighters who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy, and 34 retired military and police personnel.

Reporter: “The ‘Gratitude and Repayment’ movement demonstrates the responsibility, affection, and profound concern of the entire Party and people for the heroic martyrs, veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, wounded and sick soldiers, families of martyrs, and those who have contributed to the revolution. Could you tell us about the outstanding achievements in implementing the ‘Gratitude and Repayment’ movement in the district recently?”

Comrade Trinh Duc Lai: Over the years, the "Gratitude and Repayment" work has always received the attention, leadership, and guidance of the Party Committee and the government, the responsible coordination of departments, organizations, and all strata of the people. It has increasingly deepened and achieved encouraging results with profound humanitarian significance, contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the Party, the State, and the Party Committees and governments at all levels in the district.

Every year, Phu Ninh district consistently promotes propaganda work and develops plans to direct all levels, sectors, agencies, and units to effectively implement state management of social policies, especially the implementation of the Ordinance on Meritorious Persons, and directives from ministries, central and provincial authorities on policies of gratitude and compensation.

Therefore, the implementation of policies for people with meritorious service is always ensured to be serious, complete, thoughtful, and timely. Activities of gratitude and care for people with meritorious service have truly become a widespread movement among all strata of the people, political and social organizations, levels, sectors, and localities in the district, with many organizational forms and many specific, practical, and extremely rich and creative actions, becoming a beautiful aspect of social life.

Many agencies, businesses, and philanthropists have participated in the "Gratitude and Repayment" movement, providing care for Heroic Vietnamese Mothers and supporting wounded and sick soldiers. Currently, policy beneficiary families and those who have rendered meritorious services in the area have a standard of living equal to or higher than the average standard of living of the local population. Many policy beneficiary families and those who have rendered meritorious services have set exemplary examples by donating land to contribute to the construction of new rural areas, actively developing production, and striving to become wealthy...

Together with the Party committees and the government, people from all walks of life in the area actively responded to the "Gratitude and Repayment" movement.

Reporter: In addition to fully, thoughtfully, and promptly implementing the general policies of the State, what other activities of gratitude and appreciation are there for meritorious individuals and families of policy beneficiaries in the locality?

Comrade Trinh Duc Lai: Along with focusing on implementing the general policies of the State, Phu Ninh also always pays attention to the socialization of gratitude and remembrance activities.

Every year, on the occasion of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27th, and on holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), the district organizes visits, encourages, and presents gifts to social policy beneficiaries, people who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution, and the Phu Tho Provincial Center for the Care of People with Meritorious Services.

Each year, the district organizes visits and presents nearly 14,000 gifts worth over 3 billion VND. Communes and towns coordinate to hold meetings and express gratitude to families of policy beneficiaries, and various organizations have dedicated thousands of man-days to caring for, repairing, and beautifying cemeteries and memorial sites for fallen soldiers. They also organize ceremonies to offer incense, flowers, and light candles in remembrance at the District's Memorial Monument for Heroes and Martyrs and at cemeteries throughout the district.

Agencies, businesses, and philanthropists have donated many gifts to families of war heroes, supporting the construction and repair of houses of gratitude. In 2023, social mobilization efforts supported 3 houses of gratitude with a total of 111 million VND; in 2024, support was provided for 3 more houses of gratitude with a total of 290 million VND.

In addition, the district has mobilized thousands of man-days to care for, repair, and beautify cemeteries and memorial sites for fallen soldiers; regularly repairing and upgrading the District's Memorial Monument for Heroes and Martyrs, and the Chan Mong - Tram Than Campaign Cemetery, with a value of over 200 million VND.

The district also organized delegations to visit the martyrs' cemeteries inside and outside the province (in 2023, they visited the martyrs' cemeteries at Hon Dung Martyrs' Cemetery and Gac Ma Memorial Area in Khanh Hoa province; in 2024, they visited the martyrs' cemeteries at National Martyrs' Cemetery A1 in Dien Bien province and Lam Dong province)...

Reporter: In the coming period, what tasks will Phu Ninh district continue to carry out to make the work of showing gratitude and appreciation increasingly effective and practical?

Comrade Trinh Duc Lai: In the coming time, to effectively implement the policy of preferential treatment for people with meritorious services, Phu Ninh district will continue to focus on doing a good job of disseminating the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on the field of preferential treatment for people with meritorious services.

At the same time, we will launch a widespread "Gratitude and Repayment" movement, encouraging all citizens to care for those who have rendered meritorious service; educate the younger generation about revolutionary traditions, and instill in them the awareness of self-improvement and striving to contribute to the cause of national construction and defense. We will continue to provide support, visit, and give gifts to families of policy beneficiaries; and regularly repair, renovate, and upgrade memorials and historical and cultural relics in the district.

Through practical and meaningful activities demonstrating responsibility, affection, gratitude, and profound appreciation for those who have contributed to the revolution, Phu Ninh district has been doing a better job in the "Paying Gratitude" work, thereby improving the material and spiritual lives of wounded soldiers, war invalids, policy beneficiary families, and those who have contributed to the revolution in the area, contributing to building a more prosperous, beautiful, and civilized Phu Ninh homeland.
