(MPI) - With the theme of Promoting sustainable development and prosperity, on the afternoon of January 9, 2025, in Vientiane, Laos, the Vietnam - Laos Investment Cooperation Conference 2025 took place. At the Conference, the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Laos delivered important speeches, conveying the message and determination of the two governments to the business community on improving the effectiveness of Vietnam - Laos economic - trade - investment cooperation in 2025 and the next period.

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam in coordination with the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Laos to assess the situation of Vietnam - Laos investment cooperation and orientation for 2025. Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam - Laos Cooperation Committee attended and spoke at the conference.
Assessing the investment cooperation situation between the two countries and the orientation for 2025, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam - Laos Cooperation Committee, said that in 2024, economic, investment and trade cooperation between the two countries will be focused on, promoted, focusing on handling long-standing difficulties and obstacles and achieving many important results.
Investment cooperation has had positive changes, many difficulties and obstacles have been promptly resolved, investment and trade promotion, guidance, inspection and supervision have been strengthened. 2024 also marked the efforts of the Governments and ministries and branches of the two countries in focusing on resolving mechanisms and policies to implement a number of large-scale investment projects.
Minister Nguyen Chi Dung also outlined the orientation and some major solutions to promote economic, investment and trade cooperation between the two countries in the coming time and believed that, with the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam, combined with a new cooperative mindset, with drastic and breakthrough measures of both sides, it will certainly open up many opportunities for large and highly effective investment cooperation between businesses of the two countries and bring the Vietnam - Laos investment cooperation relationship to a new height.
At the conference, representatives of the business communities of the two countries reported on their operations; difficulties, obstacles and proposals and recommendations to enhance cooperation and investment capabilities, especially the investment orientation of Vietnamese enterprises in Laos in the coming time.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Vice President of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company, said that the Vietnam - Laos Investment Cooperation Conference 2025 is not only a clear demonstration of the special traditional friendship between the two countries but also a foundation for us to build and open up new cooperation opportunities together, contributing to promoting sustainable development of both sides.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan informed about the master plan for the development of the airport system in Laos, investment in aviation in Laos and expansion to other fields; committed to continue efforts and close cooperation with the Government and partners in Laos to realize socio-economic development goals, making Laos a bright spot in the ASEAN region. At the same time, he expressed his belief that, with determination and consensus, the cooperation projects will be successful, bringing mutual benefits to both countries.
The conference also heard the leaders of the Vietnam Chemical Group express their gratitude to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam and Laos for organizing the Vietnam - Laos Investment Cooperation Conference within the framework of the working program of the Prime Ministers of the two countries attending the 47th Meeting of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee. The conference will be an opportunity to review the investment cooperation situation between Vietnam and Laos in the past time, a forum to discuss major and new orientations in investment cooperation between the two countries, to resolve difficulties and obstacles, to create a favorable environment for businesses of the two countries to have the opportunity to exchange, expand and enhance practical cooperation, seize opportunities and open up new prospects for the future.
In recent years, under the leadership of the Party, State, Government and Prime Ministers of the two countries, the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos has achieved many positive results, contributing significantly to maintaining political stability, socio-economic development, and bringing many practical benefits to the people of the two countries. That is the basis for the ministries, branches and business communities of the two countries, through cooperation and investment promotion conferences, to actively implement agreed tasks, organize cooperation activities effectively and achieve remarkable results, including cooperation, trade and investment activities of the Vietnam Chemical Group in the Lao PDR.
Before the Prime Minister and the Ministries and sectors of the two countries, the Vietnam Chemical Group agreed on the consistent viewpoint that the successful and timely implementation of the Project is one of the most important political tasks for the Vietnam Chemical Group in 2025 and the following years. At the same time, it committed to focus all resources and closely coordinate with relevant units to organize and implement the Project with the highest determination to meet the progress required by competent authorities.
The conference listened to the direction speeches of the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Laos with many important contents to improve the effectiveness of economic-trade-investment cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in 2025 and the following period. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that in 2025, both countries will enter the final year of the Party Congress term in each country. In the context of many difficulties and challenges, the regional and world situation is evolving rapidly, complicatedly and unpredictably, facing many issues of national, comprehensive and global nature, the two countries Vietnam and Laos with special relations must be more united and unified to respond to emerging issues and continue to build and develop the country.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the Party and State of Vietnam always attach importance to and give the highest priority to maintaining and developing friendly relations with Laos. Vietnam and Laos are two neighboring countries that are close in terms of geography, history, culture and sentiment between the two countries. On the other hand, Vietnam has a market of more than 100 million people, Laos has a market of more than 8 million people. These are favorable conditions and great advantages for enterprises of the two countries to cooperate, produce and do business.
The Prime Minister praised the efforts of businesses of the two countries in recent times, achieving positive cooperation results, contributing to the development of Vietnam and Laos, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries. The governments of the two countries have also made great efforts, many problems in long-standing projects in recent years have been resolved.
However, economic cooperation is still not commensurate with the distinct potential, outstanding opportunities, and competitive advantages of the two sides. Therefore, agencies and localities need to be more determined, act together more resolutely and actively, remove barriers and bottlenecks in terms of institutions, laws, mechanisms, policies on taxes, procedures, fees, and charges. Along with that, promote the connection of soft infrastructure and transport infrastructure; promote the connection of supply chains, connect businesses between the two countries and with third countries, promote the strengths of each side such as Laos has strengths in raw materials, Vietnam has deep processing capacity, and has an open export market.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also emphasized the recommendations of enterprises and hoped that ministries, localities and enterprises of the two countries would share with each other; have high determination, great efforts, drastic actions, focus, and finish each task; respect time, intelligence and timely decisiveness, these are the decisive factors for success in cooperation, production, investment and business.
For his part, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone assessed that recently, many investment projects in various fields of Vietnamese enterprises investing in Laos have been implemented very actively and effectively; affirming that the Lao Government always actively urges Vietnamese enterprises to promote investment in industries and fields that are in line with the plan and prioritize economic development. The Lao Government has considered applying a number of specific policies to encourage Vietnamese enterprises to invest.
The Lao Government is continuing to actively improve the investment and business environment, while implementing major strategies on economic integration and connectivity; sustainable, green development; and digital transformation.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone hopes that businesses of the two countries will increase their exploration of cooperation and investment opportunities in various fields, especially promoting cooperation in developing industrial zones to enhance deep processing of Lao raw materials; developing clean energy, wind energy; etc. At the same time, he expressed his hope that the two sides will promote the tradition of good cooperation, continue to organize more forums and conferences to promote stronger and more effective economic cooperation, commensurate with the extremely good special relationship between the two countries./.
