Environmental protection has become a regular activity of the community, organizations and individuals; along with the New Rural Development, in which the environmental sanitation movement and the building of a cultural lifestyle have been promoted, mobilizing the active contributions of organizations, individuals and communities throughout the province; contributing to the successful implementation of the New Rural Development movement. Many localities in the province have many models and methods in implementing environmental protection work in the area.

Thereby, the role of Party committees and authorities at all levels regularly pay attention and focus on implementing many synchronous measures and solutions in environmental management; limiting pollution, overcoming environmental degradation, contributing to the successful implementation of the province's socio-economic development goals.

According to the leaders of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Tra Vinh province, after nearly 1 year of implementing Directive No. 27-CT/TU, there have been many positive changes in the environmental pollution caused by waste in rural areas, waste from agricultural production activities, livestock waste... Along with that, the community's awareness of environmental protection of people, production, business and service establishments has gradually become more organized.

Comrade Tran Van Tien, Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Tra Cu district, said: for the locality that is focusing on completing the new rural district by the end of 2023, the implementation of Directive No. 27-CT/TU has had a positive impact on environmental protection work in the period of 2021 - 2025. Previously, the province and localities implemented Directive No. 15/CT-TU, dated December 28, 2016 of the Standing Committee of Tra Vinh Provincial Party Committee "on strengthening the management of construction order and environmental sanitation in urban areas and residential areas in production, business and service activities in the province", so there were few problems during the implementation process.

By the end of April 2023, districts, towns and cities continued to maintain activities to improve landscape and environment. Thereby, 1,854 meetings were carried out, with 74,595 participants.

Clearing about 522km of sewers and waterways; cleaning and collecting about 268 tons of waste on roads, market areas, and residential areas; clearing bushes on about 1,935km of roads. Organizing the planting and care of 42,853 trees.

The province has 160 model points for collecting and treating household waste, with 72,085 households participating. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment, in coordination with the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities, continues to install 100 surveillance cameras at environmental hotspots in the province.

Rate of collection and treatment of domestic waste: in urban areas is estimated at 98.17%, in rural areas is estimated at 83.25%. Medical facilities classify and collect waste in accordance with Circular No. 20/2021/TT-BYT, dated November 26, 2021 of the Ministry of Health; 09 medical facilities periodically report on environmental protection work on the Environmental Information System software once a month.

For Tra Cu district, currently, in the implementation process in some localities, the action plan has not been closely followed; some people's awareness still includes the phenomenon of throwing away plastic bottles and jars in violation of regulations; at the tanks containing pesticide containers and packaging, there is still a situation of dumping the wrong type of waste and encroachment on corridors and sidewalks in business...

Up to now, Tra Cu district has installed 444 tanks and garbage bins at public places, on inter-commune and inter-hamlet roads... Through capital support from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, in 2023, the district will invest in waste treatment and classification at the source (cost of 1.4 billion VND). The district's New Rural Development Fund will invest in models: collecting and treating plastic waste; waste treatment models at the source (organic waste) at religious establishments (Khmer Southern Buddhist pagodas); and at the same time, build a collection and storage site for waste (glass fragments, bottles, glass jars...) in Ngoc Bien commune... with a total cost of over 2 billion VND.

In the district alone, there are currently 15 surveillance cameras (of which 12 are invested by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment; the rest are invested by the district). The camera system has actively supported the implementation of criteria to ensure security, order, and environmental sanitation. Monitoring, detecting, and promptly handling cases of illegal dumping; limiting the situation of littering in the environment, raising environmental protection awareness of people and garbage collection units in arranging garbage bins, ensuring collection, limiting the accumulation of garbage, and environmental sanitation at monitored locations has been improved compared to before. Illegal dumping and garbage generated around the base of the bins have been reduced; collection units have arranged the bins neatly and tidily.

According to comrade Tran Van Tien, the district will continue to inspect and urge the activities responding to "Green - Clean - Beautiful Sunday" taking place in communes and towns. Strengthen the mobilization and propaganda work to raise people's awareness of the importance of responding to activities to improve the environmental landscape, urban beautification, ensure food safety, restore order and traffic safety. Continue to maintain and take care of green - clean - beautiful roads and organize activities to respond with the people to collect waste, dump waste in the right place, plant and take care of trees and flowers in front of each household's yard and along the road.
