After buying 6 acres of land to establish an orchard on Dai Mountain (Luong Phi commune), Ms. Tran Thi Anh Quyen was "given" hundreds of naturally growing banana trees. During harvest season, this provided her with an additional source of income without any maintenance costs. When banana prices dropped, she considered drying them and invested in an electric drying machine. For a whole month, all the batches of dried bananas failed. From these failures, she learned valuable lessons and gradually achieved success. Her product was introduced to friends and relatives, receiving positive feedback. From then on, Ms. Quyen decided to develop this business further.

Ms. Quyen shared: “Ordinary Siamese bananas become drier the longer they are dried, and they don't form a syrup. That's the big difference when I make Bay Nui Farm's dried banana product, which everyone praises for its delicious taste. After harvesting, the ripe bananas are naturally ripened. After initial processing, they are washed and a little alcohol and salt are added to prevent mold, fermentation, and enhance the flavor. A batch of dried bananas takes more than 24 hours to meet the requirements. The first drying takes over 10 hours, then it stops to allow the bananas to form a syrup before the remaining drying step. The finished product is considered satisfactory when the outside has a beautiful natural color, and the inside is dry, soft, and chewy. 50kg of fresh bananas will yield 30kg of finished dried bananas.” Ms. Quyen's dried banana product (named "Natural Dried Bananas" by Bay Nui Farm - "Garden in the Clouds") has been recognized as a 3-star OCOP product of Tri Ton district. This is a welcome sign that Ms. Quyen's "brainchild" is becoming widely known.

According to Nguyen Van Van, Head of the Agriculture and Environment Department of Tri Ton District, the locality began implementing the OCOP Program in 2020. At that time, only the palm sugar produced by Palmania Joint Stock Company in the district was evaluated and ranked as a 4-star OCOP product of An Giang province. In 2023, the district had three more products certified as 3-star OCOP products, including: Ido longan from Ido Longan Cooperative (Tan Tuyen commune); rice wine from Cong Chuan Wine Production Facility (Lac Quoi commune); and seedless lemons from Nguyen Minh Cong Business Household (Luong An Tra commune). In 2024, four more products were certified as 3-star OCOP products, including: dried bananas from Bay Nui Farm - Garden on the Clouds Business Household; large-eared Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms, Cordyceps mushrooms from Nuong Farm, and termite mushrooms from Nang Nuong Agricultural Cooperative (Ta Danh commune). Three OCOP 5-star products, including: thick palm sugar syrup, powdered palm sugar syrup, and granulated palm sugar syrup, from Palmania Joint Stock Company.

Currently, the district has 10 OCOP products, including 7 3-star OCOP products and 3 5-star OCOP products at the national level. In 2025, the unit will support 8 economic entities in preparing OCOP dossiers; organize a district-level evaluation and ranking council for 9 products. In addition, it will coordinate and support entities in establishing linkages, promoting and facilitating trade; improving packaging, designs, and trademarks; implementing traceability and protecting intellectual property rights to enhance the quality of OCOP products and potential, distinctive products of Tri Ton.

OCOP is a rural economic development program that focuses on leveraging local resources such as labor, culture, intellect, and creativity. Based on this, it aims to improve people's lives and build new rural areas through branded products characteristic of each locality and region. According to Tran Minh Giang, Vice Chairman of the Tri Ton District People's Committee, the district will continue to widely and consistently promote and raise public awareness of the OCOP program, linking it with the National Target Program for New Rural Development.

Local authorities support businesses in developing raw material areas, building value chains, mechanization, and processing technology on a small and medium scale; developing packaging, labels, and traceability; promoting trade; applying science and technology ; training human resources and vocational skills; and accessing preferential credit packages. Businesses need to apply digital transformation and equipment to facilitate market connectivity and traceability, especially the application of information technology. At the same time, they should continue to improve product quality, aiming to upgrade OCOP products to 4-star and 5-star ratings.
