Upgrading the fishing infrastructure system - "supporting" fishermen to go offshore

(Baohatinh.vn) - Ha Tinh has made efforts to invest in upgrading the fishing port system and storm shelters for fishing boats to "support" fishermen in improving fishing efficiency and ensuring safety.

Thach Kim fishing port (Thach Ha) has just been invested in upgrading, expanding and improving the waterway.

During the recent storm No. 1, nearly 300 fishing boats took shelter at the Cua Sot Fishing Boat Shelter and Thach Kim Fishing Port (Thach Kim Commune, Thach Ha District). Activities here were more convenient and safer than before because of the deep channel and wide wharf.

Fisherman Nguyen Viet Linh - owner of HT 90313 TS ship in Phu Mau residential area (Loc Ha town) excitedly said: “Fishermen inside and outside the province are very excited when Cua Sot has a new fishing port and the waterway is cleared. Now, we feel secure because we can go to production or return at any time. The newly invested infrastructure also helps us receive materials, unload and sell seafood easier and faster”.

Fresh and valuable seafood caught by Thach Kim fishermen is brought to the port.

According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Cua Sot fishing boat shelter and Thach Kim fishing port were first put into use in 2007 and have been gradually upgraded. Currently, the Thach Kim fishing port expansion investment project with a total investment of 60 billion VND has been completed after 1 year of construction and is completing handover procedures for operation. Thereby, it contributes to ensuring the loading and unloading capacity of 40 thousand tons/year (8,000 tons of aquatic products) and providing fishing services at the port such as: ice, fresh water, food, fishing gear, fuel, etc.

After many years of suffering due to shallow channels and no fishing port, Cam Xuyen fishermen can now be happy because they are about to benefit from the Cua Nhuong Fishing Port Construction Investment Project with a total investment of 280 billion VND. Up to this point, the project has been completed and is completing the procedures for putting it into use. When put into operation, this project will meet the capacity of 400CV ships, the capacity to dock 100 ships/day, the amount of aquatic products passing through the port is about 16,000 tons/year...

Cua Nhuong fishing port is about to be put into operation, fulfilling the long-standing desire of Cam Xuyen fishermen.

Fisherman Ton Duc Vinh - owner of the HT 96791 TS ship in Thien Cam town (Cam Xuyen) happily said: "Now, our large-capacity ships will no longer have to anchor in the middle of the creek and then use basket boats to transfer products to shore to sell to small traders. This will be a motivation for large fishing boats like ours to confidently stick to the sea and go offshore."

The current infrastructure system serving seafood catching in Ha Tinh is planned with 4 fishing ports: Ky Ninh Fishing Port (Ky Anh Town), Xuan Hoi Fishing Port (Nghi Xuan), Thach Kim Fishing Port (Thach Ha), Cua Nhuong Fishing Port (Cam Xuyen) and 4 provincial-level anchorage areas including: Storm shelter anchorage area for fishing boats Cua Hoi (Nghi Xuan), Storm shelter anchorage area for fishing boats Cua Sot (Thach Ha), Storm shelter anchorage area for fishing boats Cua Nhuong (Cam Xuyen), Storm shelter anchorage area for fishing boats Cua Khau - Ky Ha (Ky Anh Town).

From 2021 to present, Ha Tinh has invested in building many important works, projects and items to serve this production sector which has many strengths. The most notable of these are the Thach Kim Fishing Port Expansion Investment Project with a total investment of 60 billion VND and the Cua Nhuong Fishing Port Investment Project with a total investment of 280 billion VND.

Along with that is the Project to build, upgrade and dredge the Cua Hoi fishing boat storm shelter area with an investment of nearly 167 billion VND (2 phases) and is preparing to invest an additional 106 billion VND for upgrading; the Cua Sot channel dredging project with a total investment of nearly 30 billion VND (completed in 2024); the Project to build the Cua Khau - Ky Ha fishing boat storm shelter area phase 1 with a total investment of 40 billion VND and is preparing to construct phase 2 with a total investment of 120 billion VND...

Components are gathered at the Cua Khau - Ky Ha fishing boat storm shelter area to prepare for phase 2 construction.

Ha Tinh currently has over 2,700 fishing boats of all kinds owned by local fishermen and hundreds of boats owned by fishermen from other provinces regularly operating in fishing ports and harbors. Therefore, investing in the construction of a system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing boats plays a very important role and is a great driving force to support fishermen to stay at sea and go offshore, ensuring safety during the rainy and stormy season, consuming products, accessing logistics services...

Mr. Bui Tuan Son - Director of the Management Board of Fishing Ports and Fishing Boat Storm Shelters in Ha Tinh said: In recent years, the province has focused on mobilizing investment resources, gradually upgrading and perfecting the post-infrastructure system serving fishing production. This not only helps improve the essential infrastructure system of an important production sector but also contributes to enhancing exploitation capacity, ensuring safety and improving the livelihoods, income and life of fishermen.

"The completed and handed over projects and works have been put into operation, operated effectively, promoted their functions well, and brought practical benefits. The remaining projects (Thach Kim Fishing Port, Cua Nhuong Fishing Port, items of phase 2 in Cua Khau - Ky Ha...) are waiting for investors, contractors, departments and functional agencies to complete construction, complete documents and procedures for handover. The Board will receive them for effective operation, and strengthen "support" for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea" - Mr. Bui Tuan Son shared.
