Elevating beach tourism in the new urban space of Ho Chi Minh City

Coastal tourism in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City, stretching from Vung Tau ward (formerly Vung Tau city) to Long Hai, Phuoc Hai, Ho Tram (formerly belonging to Long Dien, Dat Do, Xuyen Moc districts, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) has many opportunities to break through.

Beach tourism attracts visitors

Ms. Kim Anh, a tourist from Dong Nai, shared that not only in the summer but also on holidays, New Year or weekends, her family chooses beaches in the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau area such as Vung Tau, Long Hai, Ho Tram... to relax and swim.

According to Ms. Kim Anh, in addition to enjoying fresh seafood, swimming is always the top priority when coming here. Then there are experiences at familiar destinations such as Big Mountain, Small Mountain in Vung Tau Ward, Long Hai fishing village or watching the windy sea in Ho Tram.

Swimming in the sea is the top choice of many families when coming to the eastern area of ​​Ho Chi Minh City.

She commented that, not only attractive to families, the beaches in the East of Ho Chi Minh City also have a special attraction for children thanks to their long, beautiful beaches, cool blue water and fresh air.

"I think that going to the beach is cool in any season. The people at the beaches in Vung Tau are very friendly, tourism is developing, very suitable for families. The coolness of the sea and forest is an opportunity for children to experience," Ms. Kim Anh added.

The sea view bridge in Ho Tram always attracts visitors on peak days.

Similarly, Ms. Le Thanh Ha, a tourist in Lam Dong, said that experiencing the sea is always her family's choice every time they come to the eastern localities of the city.

"The sea in this area is very clean. In the afternoon, children can go to the beach to catch fish. After swimming, they can catch fish and release them back into the natural environment. Therefore, children love going to the beach and can play at the beach all day with many experiences," Ms. Ha shared.

Refresh to improve

According to the People's Committee of Vung Tau Ward, the locality was formed on the basis of merging wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Thang Nhi and Thang Tam - wards with forests and sea (belonging to Vung Tau City, old Ba Ria - Vung Tau province).

Before the administrative reorganization, Vung Tau City (old) had won the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award 3 times in a row in 2020-2024, thereby forming the habit of "clean and civilized tourism" in the community. This is considered an important asset for Vung Tau Ward to continue to improve its image and strengthen the trust of tourists and investors.

Thang Tam Whale Festival will be elevated and held throughout the year.

Mr. Vu Hong Thuan, Chairman of Vung Tau Ward People's Committee, said that the ward inherited the entire infrastructure system of the old Vung Tau City, which is now conveniently connected to Ho Chi Minh City.

With important connecting routes such as: Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway and the future Can Gio - Vung Tau sea route, Vung Tau ward hopes to become an ideal destination in the region.

In the new development space, the ward will expand coastal public spaces, ensuring safe and clean beaches; promote digital applications in management; build a series of marine events - marine sports - seasonal festivals; and at the same time firmly adhere to the roadmap for developing green tourism in line with Ho Chi Minh City's Net Zero goal.

In addition, the ward will focus on preserving, embellishing and upgrading works, cultural festivals and historical relics. Specifically, the Thang Tam Whale Festival will be upgraded to take place regularly instead of seasonally as before, avoiding waste and creating more unique cultural products to serve tourists.

Short beach tourism with traditional festivals will be a new product to attract tourists to Vung Tau.

"Vung Tau Ward has beautiful mountains and beautiful sea. In the near future, we will preserve the environment in these areas. In particular, when Thuy Van Park - Back Beach is put into operation, there will be many products and services to turn this area into a nightlife district, organizing major cultural and sports events. And at the beach, there will be 3-4 activities every month such as boat racing, windsurfing, paragliding... taking place all year round, so tourists coming to Vung Tau will have many fun activities," said Mr. Thuan.

According to the People's Committee of Ho Tram commune, Ho Chi Minh City, in addition to inheriting the development achievements of Xuyen Moc district (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), the locality now has many favorable conditions to promote coastal tourism thanks to the coastal route 994 passing through, connecting to Binh Thuan (old) now Lam Dong.

When this coastal route is completed and put into operation, Ho Tram will be connected to a series of important traffic axes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, Long Thanh Airport, Ring Road 4 - Ho Chi Minh City..., creating a seamless regional connectivity network.

Chairman of Ho Tram Commune People's Committee, Mr. Huynh Phi Khanh, said that the local economic development orientation will focus on two main pillars: high-quality tourism and high-tech agriculture associated with tourism.

To anticipate new development space, the commune has reserved 5 land plots with a total area of ​​over 180 hectares for services and tourism, aiming to form large-scale and high-quality coastal tourist areas in the coming time.

In the new space, with an increasingly synchronous infrastructure system, these locations are expected to transform strongly, maximizing their available potential to elevate tourism.

Improving coastal tourism infrastructure, expanding public spaces, building the image of clean and safe beaches, developing marine sports and diversifying tourism products associated with culture - cuisine - festivals... are the key development directions of coastal localities in Ho Chi Minh City.

When the connecting traffic system is completed, the coastal area in the East of Ho Chi Minh City is expected to become an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Proactively capturing the tourism wave in the new development space, localities are continuing to invest in building different products with high influence and competitiveness, aiming to meet the increasing needs of tourists, especially the group of tourists with high spending levels.
