Anchoring love at the Warm Home of the Sea

In June, the summer sunshine spreads a golden carpet across the coastal areas of Phu Yen, from An Ninh Tay commune (Tuy An district) to Phu Dong ward (Tuy Hoa city). In that space filled with sunlight, a warm breeze spreads, seeping into each newly built, spacious house, carrying the warmth of human love.

Sweat Drops on the Sea

In An Ninh Tay commune, Tuy An district, a locality with many households facing economic difficulties, officers and soldiers of An Hai Border Guard Station, the provincial Border Guard launched the program "Joining hands for the poor - leaving no one behind". They started dismantling the first temporary houses of Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh (Hoi Phu village) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Cuc (Diem Dien village). Both households are in extremely difficult circumstances, single-parent, and unable to improve their housing.

Not minding the hardships under the hot summer sun, the border guards stick to the construction site from early morning to late afternoon. Each hammer blow, each load of bricks, each bag of cement is transported, dismantled, and leveled by their own hands.

Major Nguyen Van Hinh, Political Commissar of An Hai Border Guard Station, said: “We conducted a thorough survey, prioritizing the elderly, single-parent households, and severely degraded houses. Although the budget is not large, the most important thing is the sentiment. That is what we always put first in anything related to the people.”

At the same time, Phu Dong Ward (Tuy Hoa City) was equally bustling. Three new houses were officially handed over to poor households, marking an emotional achievement in the journey of joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. The house acceptance and handover ceremony was attended by city leaders, the Fatherland Front at all levels, Tuy Hoa Border Guard Station and representatives of many departments and units in the area.

The joint efforts of the government, the community and the border guards have created warm homes in coastal areas. These are not only solid houses, but also anchors of humanity and a source of hope for life.

The three houses were given to Mr. Nguyen Van Thu (Ward 1), Mrs. Truong Thi Chin and Mrs. Pham Thi Xang (Ward 5), all of whom are in extremely difficult circumstances. Mr. Thu, who has lived alone for many years in a dilapidated shack, exposed to rain and sun, now has a spacious home. The new 40m2 level 4 house, built at a cost of 120 million VND, is an unprecedented joy for him.

Mrs. Chin, nearly 80 years old, with no place to live, now has a house worth 200 million VND, spacious and sturdy. In particular, Mrs. Pham Thi Xang, a poor household for many years, was given a 55m² level 4 house with a mezzanine, with a total cost of nearly 250 million VND. This warm home is the result of joint efforts from many sides: 60 million VND from the Tuy Hoa City Fund for the Poor, 40 million VND from contributions from civil servants, and the rest is enthusiastic support from the people, benefactors, Tuy Hoa Border Guard Station and dozens of days of volunteer labor.

Ms. Xang choked up with tears during the house handover ceremony: “Before, every time there was a storm, I was always afraid that the house would collapse at any time, and I couldn’t sleep well. Now that I have a new house, I just hope to live in peace, work hard, and raise my children to be good people so as not to disappoint the government, the Border Guard, and the people who have helped me.”

Bricks are contributed by sweat and heart

According to Mr. Luu Dung Ha, Standing Member of the Tuy Hoa City Fatherland Front Committee, supporting house construction not only helps people have a place to live, but also helps disadvantaged people change their lives. This is an important political and social responsibility, closely linked to the sustainable development of the locality.

In An Ninh Tay commune, after the first two houses, An Hai Border Guard Station will continue to survey and mobilize resources to deploy more houses in 2025. “We will not stop. Fishermen still have leaky, makeshift houses, we still have to build new houses,” Major Nguyen Van Hinh affirmed.

The biggest common point of the work in An Ninh Tay and Phu Dong is not only the new houses, but also the cooperation of the whole community. That is where the relationship between the army and the people is closely linked, each brick is contributed with sweat and heart.

In those places, the Border Guard, together with cadres, civil servants, and organizations, mobilized contributions of materials and labor; many small businesses and local people contributed labor and money. This effective coordination created solid houses, a vivid demonstration of the effectiveness of skillful mass mobilization work, the result of perseverance in mobilizing the people's strength, hearts, and will of the soldiers in green uniforms.

With a stable place to live, people can feel secure in doing business, taking care of their children, and thereby escape poverty sustainably. This is the humane goal throughout the program "Joining hands for the poor, leaving no one behind".
