Russia cuts off supply lines at Vyemka village, opens way to attack Seversk

The Russian army has been actively fighting to surround Siversk, most recently completely cutting off the supply line at Vyemka village, opening the way to attack this city.

As of September 30, the Ukrainian Army (AFU) has established two new heavy mechanized brigades, namely the 12th Brigade, built on the foundation of the 12th Independent Tank Battalion, and the 29th Brigade, restructured from the 29th Independent Tank Battalion, according to the Kyiv Post of Ukraine.

With this change, the AFU no longer has a separate tank unit. Currently, out of 13 army corps, there are 11 heavy mechanized brigades. The Ukrainian army had previously considered the introduction of “corps-level formations”, hoping to reverse the passive situation on the front line.

However, the lack of manpower slowed down the progress. Fortunately, with the support of NATO, although heavy armored vehicles were somewhat scarce, they were not completely overwhelmed, allowing the AFU to form these heavy combat brigades.

Some believe that the AFU uses these brigades because of a lack of infantry and hopes to use them for counterattacks. But objectively, with the use of large numbers of UAVs on the battlefield, the fate of these heavy armored vehicles will be easily destroyed. Therefore, the effectiveness of any AFU counterattack is very questionable.

The most active offensive of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) at the moment is taking place in the Lyman-Siversk direction. After taking complete control of the Serebryanskoye forest, the RFAF has made significant progress to the west, pushing the Ukrainian army deep into the village of Yampol and getting closer and closer to Lyman (Russian: Krasnyi Liman).

All this further confirms the fact that the Serebryanskoye and Kremenskoye forests were the most important defensive positions of the Ukrainian army, where the AFU used the natural terrain to organize defensive combat operations. The loss of these positions forced the AFU to retreat at least 4-5 km.

The total area of ​​​​territory lost by the AFU in this direction since the beginning of last week has exceeded 70 square kilometers. This is equivalent to more than 10 square kilometers per day. And although one often hears the phrase "it is not a question of square kilometers", perhaps this is true for high-level politics , but for the current situation on the front, this is a significant and significant thing.

Yampol railway station was under RFAF control, and Russian troops were advancing towards Medovaya station (Medovy settlement) - essentially the northern part of Yampol. Station 438 km was also under the control of the Russian army (RFAF).

From the village of Zarichne, located 7 km east of Lyman, which had just been overrun by the Russians, the shock troops of the RFAF Western Group advanced westward to a depth of up to 3.5 km, encircling Lyman from the north. The Ukrainian troops there put up fierce resistance, not allowing the Russians to advance easily.

The Russian RVvoenkory channel reported that the RFAF Western Group of Forces has overrun the stronghold north of the village of Vyemka, thereby encircling the village from the north. Given the current situation, the RFAF has lost the ability to supply the Vyemka garrison. Therefore, taking control of Vyemka may be just a matter of time.

North of Seversk, fighting continues near Mine No. 6. Russian troops are advancing towards the village of Rudnik and the Bakhmutka River. In addition, there is information about an improvement in the tactical situation near Dronivka, the opening of the road to Seversk from the north, and an advance along the railway. At the same time, Russian troops continue their offensive at Yampol.

The RFAF has now begun to cut off the Ukrainian supply line to the Seversk group. While the 25th Army of the Western Army Group attacks the line of communication between Seversk and Lyman via Yampol, the 3rd Army of the Western Army Group is advancing westward, from Serebryanka to Dronivka and Platonivka.

The RFAF's control of Pereizne and preparations for the attack on Zvanivka marked the beginning of the operation to cut off the AFU's vital logistical route in Siversk. The control of Svyato-Pokrovskoe would deprive the AFU garrison in Seversk of the ability to supply the city of Slavyansk via the route through Nikolaevka.

Even while the AFU still controlled the rural roads west of Krivaya Luka, the late autumn rains and the active activity of RFAF FPV UAVs made AFU supply lines over dirt roads difficult, if not nearly paralyzed.

Finally, regarding Lyman, the Russian Ministry of Defense has officially confirmed the capture of the town of Zarichne. The town is the last barrier northeast of Lyman. Its capture is expected to facilitate the RFAF's advance into Lyman, seemingly collapsing the Ukrainian defenses.

Interestingly, however, the Russian side noticed that the AFU was deliberately abandoning some of Lyman’s peripheral positions and withdrawing all its forces into the city. Anyone with a keen eye could clearly see that the AFU intended to rely on this large fortress to hold out, avoiding direct confrontation with the Russians on the battlefield, and intended to turn it into a “hard nut to crack”, slowing down the Russian advance.
