Russia: Google restricts new account creation for users in this country

Interfax news agency quoted a source from the Russian Ministry of Information and Communications on September 26 saying that Alphabet's Google has restricted the creation of new accounts for users in this country.

According to the source, telecom operators have also recorded a significant decrease in the number of company SMS messages sent to Russian users.

The ministry recommends that users of Google services create copies of their data and switch to alternative two-factor authentication methods or domestic platforms.

Earlier in August, Google said it had suspended AdSense accounts in Russia.

Currently, both Google and the Russian Ministry of Information and Communications have not responded to the latest information above.

Google also stopped serving ads to users in Russia in March 2022. The company blocked more than 1,000 YouTube channels and more than 5.5 million videos in Russia.

In recent months, users have noticed slower speeds on Google's YouTube video hosting platform in Russia.
